Jim Harbaugh Responds to Justin Herbert Skipping GF OTAs

While others criticized the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert by violating voluntary norms in order to support his girlfriend, Madison Beeron the trip, his head coach was fine with it.

“I was happy that he went to support Madison on his music journey,” said the Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh he told reporters on Wednesday, May 27, at a press conference. “Madison supports him at football games. He told me he wouldn't be here for those two weeks and my first response was, 'Do you need a ride to the airport?'

Harbaugh, 62, explained that he had actually persuaded Herbert, 28, to take a break.

“There were times when I wanted to kick him out of the building,” he said. “He works out voluntarily, in every workout that's not voluntary. The same guy that broke his hand and was here the next day at practice. Next game, tough-armed guys. So, yeah, I was happy. I'm happy. You know, good balance. Good balance.”

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert and pop singer Madison Beer have finally started appearing on the red carpet. The couple attended Clive Davis' pre-Grammys party together on Saturday, January 31, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. When Herbert walked the red carpet that evening, Beer stunned in a $3,000 strapless, beige, pleated, silk gown. […]

Harbaugh's support is all that should matter to Herbert, but that hasn't stopped others from getting on the scale. Founder of Barstool Sports Dave Portnoy ripped the quarterback earlier this month by appearing in one of Beer's music videos.

“Call me crazy but I like my coaches and QBs to focus on the weight room and reading game tape rather than making hot music videos,” Portnoy, 49, wrote via X on May 8. “But maybe that's why [the Patriots] they have 6 rings and they were in the Super Bowl last year and the Chargers can't win a playoff game.”

Herbert was back at practice on Wednesday, and the Chargers' official X account shared several photos of him on the field with the caption, “here + ready.”

Herbert and Beer, 27, first sparked dating rumors in August 2025 when they were spotted together on the set of the singer's music videos.

Weeks later, they were spotted holding hands on a date night in Los Angeles. Fans got all the confirmation they needed, however, in October 2025 when cameras caught them sharing several quick kisses on the sidelines of SoFi Stadium before a Chargers game.

The couple has already appeared together at the World Series, on the sidelines of NBA games and even at games Harry styles the concert.

While Herbert watched beer on his European tour, he shouted during his May 22 show in Paris, changing a line in his song “Baby” to say, “I'm the best you've ever had, Justin, I can turn you on, turn you on.”
