A product of Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico, Zurdo Ramirez made his professional boxing debut back in August 2009. Zurdo's first 25 fights all took place in his native Mexico.

Zurdo Ramirez made his United States debut back in August 2013 when he won a unanimous decision over Derrick Findley. Three years later, Ramirez defeated Arthur Abraham and won his first world title.

After successfully defending his WBO super-middleweight world title five times, Ramirez moved up in weight and made a bid for a two-division world title.

Unfortunately for Ramirez, he lost his first career defeat to WBA light-heavyweight world champion Dmitry Bivol. Ramirez will return in his next match against Joe Smith Jr.

Zurdo Ramirez became a multi-division world champion in March 2024 when he defeated Arsen Goulamirian for the WBA cruiserweight world title.

Eight months later, Ramirez beat Chris Billam-Smith and won the WBO belt. Now United World Cruiserweight Champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez is about to defend his titles against a boxer who is focused on becoming one of the stars.

At the start of his reign at 168, David Benavidez was a two-time WBC champion. During his last 3 years in the division, Benavidez pursued a fight with Canelo Alvarez, and Alvarez continued to put on a clinic about the art of ducking.

After Canelo successfully avoided him for years, Benavidez decided to move up to the light-heavyweight division. In his debut at 175, Benavidez outpointed Oleksandr Gvozdyk.

With the victory, David Benavidez won the vacant WBC title. Eight months later, Benavidez captured the WBA (Regular) belt when he beat David Morrell by unanimous decision.
Fresh from the ring, Benavidez punished Anthony Yarde until the referee intervened and stopped the contest in the seventh round.

Now undefeated 29-year-old David Benavidez (31-0, 25 KOs) is ready to challenge the world champion he's all too familiar with. Early in his career, Benavidez and Zurdo Ramirez were involved in some tough times of abuse.

On Saturday night, May 2nd, Ramirez and Benavidez will be under the bright lights participating in a high-profile matchup. Despite the fact that he is the defending champion, Ramirez enters the contest as an underdog.

34 year old Zurdo Ramirez is a powerful high volume puncher, and he is very accurate with his shots. Ramirez has excellent footwork, and excels at creating angles.

The opponent, David Benavidez, is a pressure fighter who is always on top. Benavidez is an accurate high volume puncher, has elite hand speed, excellent punch placement, and tends to land rapid fire combinations.

Zurdo Ramirez's path to victory starts with jabs and straight punches. Ramirez needs to control distance, slow down, target the body, and hit between shots.

David Benavidez is tipped to win this fight because of his skill and his ability to break down his opponent during the fight. The question for Benavidez is how will he respond to Zurdo's power?

Saturday night's main event will feature two top-level Mexican-style boxers. Zurdo Ramirez's fight against David Benavidez will be an action-packed fight that could be an instant classic.
