Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi has given Spurs the thumbs up to pursue one player who will receive special support, according to talkSPORT.
Spurs have set themselves up for battle with Sunderland as summer plans continue
Despite fears of a downturn, De Zerbi and his colleagues are reportedly planning to close their doors for a long time.
Tottenham's most important afternoon will come at the Stadium of Light soon, with De Zerbi in charge for his first game as head coach.
Spurs go into the relegation zone after West Ham's 4-0 win over Wolves on Friday moved the Hammers above them, meaning a point or better at Sunderland is needed just to get out of the bottom three.
De Zerbi has seven games to lead his team to safety – this is the first of them.

The Italian was unwavering in his commitment to the job regardless of the outcome.
He signed a five-year contract and confirmed that he will continue to hold the reins even if the unthinkable happens and Spurs are relegated.
But he will also know that the team he promises next season, and the job he was sold on when he accepted the role, is entirely dependent on the security of Premier League football.
That long-term planning is already underway in the background, and one aspect of the summer business is now more advanced than many expected.
Roberto De Zerbi wants the Tottenham star to improve in a subtle press conference message
The Italian wants him to roll back the years.
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Tottenham have reached a verbal agreement to sign Andy Robertson on a free transfer in June, with all personal terms settled verbally between the two clubs.
Robertson, 32, officially confirmed his departure from Liverpool on Thursday after nine years at Anfield.
The club announced that he will leave when his contract expires at the end of the season, as the Scottish player lost his starting place to Milos Kerkez this season.
Tottenham's interest is not new, having come close to signing Robertson in January, only for them to succeed when Liverpool were unable to recall Kostas Tsimikas on loan from Roma.
Robertson did not seek a transfer at the time, content to see out the season professionally.
Roberto De Zerbi 'backs' Tottenham for Andy Robertson
talkSPORT share more details on Spurs' swoop for the Scotsman.
The broadcaster says De Zerbi 'backs' Tottenham's move for Robertson, but there is one caveat – the Lilywhites will need to avoid relegation to successfully sign the Anfield hero.
Of course, if Spurs are relegated from the Championship, the deal falls through – Robertson will not be joining the second-tier club.
Juventus, Atlético Madrid and Napoli are all reportedly monitoring his availability and could offer him European football next season, making Spurs' survival a non-negotiable part of the equation.
TalkSPORT's Jason Cundy has made it clear what the club will be getting when it comes to signing.
In Robertson's departure for a career that has made him one of the best left-backs ever to grace the Premier League, Cundy has been blown away by his willingness to help.
“Statistically, let me tell you Andy Robertson's Premier League record. 373. 13 goals, 69 assists. Now that's crazy for a defender,” Cundy said.
“He's ahead of John Arne Riise who's 30. Closest to him is Ashley Cole, who's 31. He's the closest. He's 69.
“I think he is one of the three best left-backs in the Premier League.”
The experience, leadership and winning mentality he will bring to a club trying to rebuild under a new manager is hard to put a price on.
Whether you come depends on the next six weeks.
