The Spurs star was “done away with” under Tudor, now he's been reinvigorated like Gallagher

Conor Gallagher, considering his previous links to Chelsea, always faced an uphill task to impress at Tottenham Hotspur, with the hope of a successful return to the Premier League never being made easy, given the turmoil he went through in N17.

Signed in late January, the 26-year-old is already in his third Spurs manager, and any new arrival could be left in such turmoil, especially after leaving Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid.

Without a goal until last weekend, the English coach did not start well, it must be said, although the first appearance does not have to die.

Now, the midfielder looks to be a key lieutenant under Roberto De Zerbi's watch, with a trip to Villa Park hoping to break out of his tortuous Spurs career.

Why Gallagher looks like a different player under De Zerbi

Before the Italian's appointment, Gallagher had not started the last three league games, and was also on the hour mark against Arsenal and Fulham, lining up in the wrong place on the right wing against the latter.

The dynamic has changed under the new regime, however, with the £34m signing starting each of the last four, while he has looked particularly influential since the defeat to Sunderland.

Against Brighton and Hove Albion, for example, he was relegated to a more action-packed, box-to-box role, hunting down Bart Verbruggen by memory at the same time as he led the press up front.

Previously described as a player that “De Zerbi” “loved” at Chelsea, Gallagher has looked his usual self in this Spurs set-up, with victory over Aston Villa his highlight for the club so far.

His strike from range to opener showed there was more to his game than heroics, as he scored and assisted 12 Premier League goals in his final year at Stamford Bridge.

That impact came when he worked as an advanced midfielder, something De Zerbi has allowed him to repeat, hence the slight revival in recent weeks.

Gallagher is clearly benefiting from the dugout change, and he's not the only one.

The Spurs star is enjoying a bigger revival than De Zerbi

Safety is not guaranteed for the north Londoners, far from it, even if the club is in a better position with De Zerbi in charge than it was under Tudor, in that short period of time it feels like wasted time for all concerned.

There were also fears of long-term consequences from the Croatian's seven-match ban, where the 47-year-old kept his eye on Xavi Simons, while brutally beating young goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.

Speaking on time that evening in Madrid, TNT sports analyst Darren Fletcher suggested that Kinsky's early withdrawal will mark the beginning of the end of his Tottenham career, as it looks “over” after such a public humiliation.

“If he's going to take him off after 16 minutes, he's done for the club as a goalkeeper. You can't come back from this if you're Kinsky. You made the decision to start him, can't you drag him at this stage? You will!

“By the way, that's for him, as it is for Kinsky. I feel for him.”

In the glittering world of the Metropolitano, the Czech stopper put up with all the worst goalkeepers, throwing away his biggest chance after being thrown into the fray in place of the error-ridden Guglielmo Vicario.

Thankfully, Vicario's absence following hernia surgery gave Kinsky another chance, with the 23-year-old able to quickly put his woes to rest in the Champions League, rather than letting this dreadful display drag on.

What pleases him is that the one who played for Slavia Prague, in fact, grabbed his opportunity with both hands, even reaching the first match against the Sunderland team playing at the Stadium of Light.

Only a deflection could improve him at the time, while there was little he could do in terms of effort against the Seagulls, with the aforementioned Verbruggen looking to shake the pair up a bit at the end.

Against Wolverhampton Wanderers, meanwhile, Kinsky's breath prevented Joao Gomes from scoring the equaliser, and Gallagher said his young team-mate “deserved” the restart, following all his hard work behind the scenes.

He looks like the perfect goalkeeper for De Zerbi, as he showed last night, completing 20 of his 21 passes inside his own half, very confident with the ball at his feet.

Better men than he would have fainted after that crazy 16 minutes last month, but under De Zerbi's regime, Kinsky is quietly making himself one of the first names on the team sheet.
