The PGA Tour's 10 biggest names reside in 2 different playoff bubbles
Jackson Koivun's song “Hello, world!” a win at the 3M Open put him on the FedEx Cup Playoffs bubble with two weeks to go. Koivun, who holds the World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in Minnesota, now sitting at No. 70 in the standings with two weeks to play before the first playoff event in Memphis.
While Koivun, who will play again in this week's Rocket Classic, is currently on the right side of the bubble, other big names find themselves on the sidelines watching the clock tick. Others find themselves in the top 70 but have work to do to reach the BMW Championship and secure their place at the Signature Events in 2027. With the PGA Tour moving to a two-tier schedule in 2028 and the eligibility criteria for the 2028 Championship Series (Track 1) being decided before the 2027 race season, gaining access to the biggest events of all. Series in 2028.
Here are some of the biggest names currently on the FedEx Cup Playoff bubble heading into the final two weeks of the regular season.
Outside I look…
These five players are all outside the top 70 The Rocket Classic.
Brooks Koepka
Currently ranked No. 84, Koepka has not played much since withdrawing from the RBC Canadian Open with a wrist injury. He missed the cut at the US Open and the Scottish Open before posting a T28 at the Open. His best finish of the year was a T9 at the Cognizant Classic in March.
He is ranked 29th on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained, eighth in strokes gained and tied for 12th. But he is ranked 115th, which is why he couldn't climb to the top in his first year back at LIV.
Koepka is on the field this week in Detroit.
Tony Finau
It's been a tough year for Finau, who has only one top 10 this season, which came at the CJ Cup and Byron Nelson. But Finau has gone CUT-T29-T40-T55-T58-CUT since then and is now 87th in the standings with two weeks to play.
Finau is ranked outside the Top 100 in overall Strokes Gained (107), Strokes Gained: Off the Tee (105) and Strokes Gained: Approach (121). The only category he has hope for is Strokes Gained: Around the Green, where he ranks 35th (0.221).
He will play this week in Detroit after missing out on 3M.
Jason Day
Jason Day opened the season with a runner-up finish at the American Express and posted a T6 at the Texas Children's Houston Open in March, but hasn't finished higher than 38 since a T12 at the Masters.
Day missed the cut at the Open and withdrew from this week's 3M and Rocket Classic due to a back injury. He is 74th in the standings.
Keegan Bradley
With his loss as Ryder Cup captain still haunting him, Bradley has yet to play to his full potential in 2026. He has completed just two games out of fifteen and has yet to post a top 10. He is ranked 76th in the FedEx Cup with two weeks to go and will play this week in Detroit.
Billy Horschel
Horschel's comeback from last year's hip surgery has been filled with golf.
Besides a T6 at the Zurich Classic, Horschel's best finish is a T13, which he posted at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and last week's 3M Open. Horschel sits at 102 in the standings as the end of the season approaches.

Jordan Spieth
Spieth has played consistent golf in 2026. He made the cut 16 of 19 times and has eight top 25s but failed to post a top 10 and sits at 55 entering this week's event in Detroit.
Spieth is ranked 84th in Strokes Gained: Approach this year, which has resulted in poor rounds that have limited his chances of competing. Sprinkle in a mediocre putter (52nd on Tour) and you get a season in which Spieth struggles to break into the 50s and make the BMW Championship as he tries to recapture his former self.
Shane Lowry
Another big name that has had a down season. Lowry opened the year with a T8 at Pebble Beach and then finished second at Cognizant after a short crash cost him the title. But since then, Lowry hasn't finished better than T22 and is ranked 57th in FedEx Cup tournaments. He will not play this week in Detroit.
Max Homa
Currently a top-50 bubble boy, Homa posted a top 10 at the Masters and finished second to Chris Gotterup at John Deere. But he has gone T39-T28-CUT in three tournaments since then. Although he's in a good place to play in Memphis, he'll need to play good golf to get to BMW and avoid relying on sponsor invitations to Signature events in 2027. Homa is not playing this week in Detroit.
Harris English
It's been a scratch year for Ryder Cupper. He finished T4 at the RBC Heritage, but hasn't finished better than T18 since. He has missed three of his last four cuts and sits at No. 48 with two weeks to play. He will put it together this week.
Jackson Koivun
Golf's next big thing caught Scottie Scheffler winning the 3M Open in his third start as a pro. That win in Minnesota launched Koivun from triple digits to No. 70, which puts him firmly on the playing bubble.
Koivun is back this week, and another strong game should secure his spot in Memphis and push him toward the top 50 bubble at BMW.
