The £75m star wants to join Liverpool

Liverpool were stunned last time out at Anfield, and perhaps FSG are now beginning to understand the extent of the problem that has befallen Arne Slot's side.

For much of this troubled campaign, opposition has come from online circles. That doesn't make it pointless, but now that turmoil has spread across the field, it's becoming increasingly difficult for Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes to keep their faith in the under-fire manager and hand him the keys this summer (and next season).

However, Slot still believes he is the man for the job, and after winning the Premier League title in stunning fashion last term, who could blame him?

In any case, Liverpool need changes after such a difficult period, and while Mohamed Salah's imminent departure requires a right-back, the Reds could also do with an upgrade for Cody Gakpo.

The Premier League winger wants to join Liverpool

Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola have been identified as Liverpool's front-runners ahead of the summer transfer window, but whether FSG have the means or desire to sign both after spending £450m last year is another matter.

However, the need to move forward is important, fueled by Hugo Ekitike's broken Achilles, and Alexander Isak's ongoing issues.

Yes, according to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are also interested in signing Newcastle striker Anthony Gordon, despite all the noise from the Bayern Munich camp.

Gordon, who is valued at £75m by the Magpies, is one of the best players in the Premier League, and Arsenal are also interested.

There are many variables at play: Bayern's interest is intense, but they are only willing to open negotiations for £50m; Arsenal are also strong contenders, but the victorious Three Lions will choose Liverpool above all other players, keen to return to Merseyside as a young Reds supporter.

If the Anfield side were to get this one over the line, they would not only get an upgrade from Gakpo, but perhaps their best winger since the days of Sadio Mane.

Why Gordon could be Liverpool's new Mane

Gordon, 25, has been among Newcastle's biggest threats since joining Everton for £45m in January 2023, and there is a sense that he still has standards to measure.

Perhaps by moving to Liverpool, he would reach that new level, with his pace and innate power in the dangerous position to emerge as Anfield's best left-back since Mane wreaked havoc on Klopp's system.

In 46 games this season, Gordon has scored 17 goals, ebbing and flowing, but proving his peak potential in the past few weeks.

Gordon is focused on hitting big with consistency on the big stage. He is among the fastest and most intimidating wingers in Europe, someone who could emulate Mane's brilliance on Merseyside.

Mane has scored 120 goals for Liverpool, and it's no argument to argue his case as one of the best players in the division. Very quickly. He was furious. Salah went home with some match balls, but there was something palpable about the Senegalese's electric presence on the floor, not slipping but snapping past opponents, knocking them down, past them.

Content creator Pete Davey said Gordon put in “one of the best attacking performances I've seen from a Newcastle United player in a long time” following the 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in March, and there's no question he can shift between gears, shifting his skills the way Mane has done so well under Klopp.

While some may think that Luis Diaz is hitting higher levels than the English at the moment, it would be wise to consider the Bayern offspring and what that could mean for Diaz's longevity in Vincent Kompany's attack. Has Gordon been identified as a replacement for the 29-year-old Colombian?

Us mortals can only sit and watch as the FSG powers decide their best course of action this summer. Will the Slot stay, or will it go?

If the Dutchman continues to hold the reins, he could fare better than the likes of Gordon who challenged Gakpo and the brilliant Rio Ngumoha who strikes down the left flank.
