Spurs enter talks to sign “one of the best players in the world”

Right now, a few things were a little different, Tottenham Hotspur could be preparing for their first season in England's second division for almost fifty years.
But not so, after the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi in March. He replaced Igor Tudor, who was fired after everything went wrong, who also replaced Thomas Frank in February, who was fired after everything went wrong.
To call it an inspired appointment would be to ignore the many failures that led ENIC to that difficult decision. The end of the dice turned six, and Spurs finally found some form and unity, beating Everton in the last game of the season to relegate West Ham United.
The post-match celebrations were a relief, however, and after finishing 17th, Tottenham need to turn around to avoid another season of turmoil.
Spurs are in talks for a league-winning striker
In recent years, Tottenham have sold Harry Kane, Heung-min Son and Brennan Johnson. The last man there is obviously not in the same bracket as the two greatest strikers in the Premier League, but he was the club's top scorer in 2024/25, with 17 goals in all competitions.

Who came and packed the punch Spurs needed at the start of Frank's short tenure? It certainly wasn't Randal Kolo Muani, and even the injured duo Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus enjoyed good seasons.
Spurs need goals, not just a midfielder (although that is difficult).
That is why the London players have made inquiries to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United as the loan of the player who has won the title with Barcelona has been completed, according to Spanish reports.
Rashford is currently not interested in joining Spurs, but that could change as the window continues, if the likes of Barcelona don't bid. He is valued at £26m, so this could be an affordable deal, and Arsenal are also keen.
Barcelona have signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle for £69m, but they will still consider signing Rashford on a permanent deal. If he decides to leave, Spurs are in line to jump.
Why Rashford could be Spurs' best winger since Son
Last year, Cristiano Ronaldo sat down with Piers Morgan and discussed many topics. That's absurd, but the legendary striker hailed Rashford as “one of the best players in the world” in his prime.
Rashford hasn't always been at his best, but he certainly found his form in Spain, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists across all competitions.
For Barcelona, the 28-year-old dismantled Newcastle in St. James' Park. He reminded English football of his ability to shine and highlight world-class talents touching the same grass.
In this case, Rashford has the potential to prove himself as Tottenham's best winger since Son joined the club from Bayer Leverkusen for around £22m in 2015, surpassing the impact of Kudus, Lucas Moura and others.
You would hope that De Zerbi's attack-oriented style might give Rashford better form in front of goal. Last season, he scored just six goals in the Premier League, but if Spurs can produce a stable and smooth program next year, this could be a special business.
Rashford wouldn't leave Spurs with the same legacy as Son, if he joined this summer, but he would have the opportunity to produce a campaign at South Korea's best.
Twice, Rashford has scored 17 goals in one season in the top flight for Man United. He has yet to break the 20-goal mark, as Son did in 2021/22 when he netted 23 goals and shared the golden boot, but this remains a prime example of the England international's ability to shine at the big stage.
Whether he does that remains to be seen. But if De Zerbi can hold on to the form that sparked Rashford in Spain, fans could be treated to a Son-esque talent next year, someone who can fire the club back into the fold after some very difficult campaigns.
