Slot is now pushing Liverpool chiefs to sign the £30m target he has wanted for years

Arne Slot is now urging Liverpool to sign Napoli defender Sam Beukema this summer in a last ditch effort to work with a player he has admired for years.

Slot pushes Liverpool to sign Beukema

Things are looking up in the Slot. Defeat against Paris Saint-Germain and the manner in which it came threatened to end the Dutchman's time at Anfield, but Liverpool have got some much-needed results.

Luis Diaz recap: Liverpool hope to sign Premier League “beast”.

Liverpool are hoping to usurp one of their biggest Premier League rivals in the summer.

While Saturday's win over Crystal Palace was hardly the norm, it did move the Reds back into the top four with three games to play. And they now have the chance to jump into third place on goal difference if they beat Manchester United at Old Trafford next weekend.

With fifth place enough to secure Champions League football, Liverpool have their destiny firmly in their hands. From Slot's point of view, and probably everyone else at Anfield for that matter, he will just want to get over the line and forget all about the current campaign.

His focus has already turned to what could be in store for the summer, too. Attacks aimed at such as Eli Junior Kroupi have appeared in recent weeks, but to have those that Slot wants to pursue elsewhere.

According to TeamTalk, Slot is now pressuring Liverpool officials to sign Sam Beukema from Napoli this summer. The Dutchman has been a fan of the defender since his Go Ahead Eagles days and could finally find his man years later.

The Reds will need another defender if Ibrahima Konate leaves as a free agent. Even if that seems unlikely at the moment, that concern remains while the Frenchman is yet to pen a new deal.

Beukema believes Slot is “one of the best”

It hasn't been Konate's best season, to say the least. The Liverpool defender has dropped off Real Madrid's radar with doubts over his future at Anfield due to form alone. Serious questions have been raised which Beukema may have to answer by arriving on Merseyside this summer.

The Napoli man still has a fan in Slot and has made it clear what he thinks of the Liverpool boss after beating the Reds and Bologna last season.

“In my opinion, he is one of the best coaches in the Netherlands and in Europe. After our Champions League game against Liverpool, he praised me and the team, saying, 'It's amazing that we are competing at this level.'

Valued at £30m by Napoli, Beukema has not quite made the impact he was hoping for at the home of the Italian champions – starting 16 Serie A games so far this season.

Liverpool are frontrunners to sign another Isak for £69m

Liverpool could sign a big-money striker in the summer.

If he wants a permanent starting spot, then there is a serious argument that the Dutchman needs Liverpool as much as they will need him if Konate leaves.

With the praise from Slot already clear, it's a move that could work for all teams this summer.
