The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has partnered with Fuse Financing, Inc., the lending arm of GCash, to launch a national financial literacy campaign that empowers Filipinos to borrow responsibly, recognize undocumented lenders, and protect themselves from unscrupulous lending and financial distress.

The campaign includes SEC-approved educational videos designed to promote fair lending, help consumers identify unscrupulous lenders, and encourage the use of safe, regulated credit options. Designed for local nuances, these materials break down complex financial concepts into relatable, easily understandable information for everyday Filipino consumers.

Its main objective is to help Filipinos avoid fraudulent lending and build long-term financial stability. In addition, it tackles the stigma around borrowing – a barrier that often discourages Filipinos from using formal credit when they need financial assistance, inadvertently driving them to unlicensed lenders.

To prevent fraud and protect personal data, the SEC strongly encourages borrowing only from registered lenders. The campaign supports safe, transparent, and regulated in-app loan products, while helping consumers understand their true costs, ability to pay, and their rights as borrowers. In addition, it clearly raises awareness of illegal lenders who charge exorbitant interest rates and use unfair collection methods.

SEC Commissioner Rogelio Quevedo emphasizes that consumers should only deal with legitimate online lenders to avoid falling victim to abusive lending practices.

“The SEC will continue to use its powers to regulate and enforce law breakers. We must also empower the public with information, awareness, and critical thinking. An informed citizen is the first line of defense against fraud. The SEC and our strong partners, will build a Filipino society that is financially literate, smart, and vigilant – able to make informed financial decisions, able to avoid information, avoid information. well-being,” said the Commissioner. Rogelio V. Quevedo.

By strengthening these standards, this initiative promotes a culture of fair and responsible lending while equipping consumers with the knowledge to make smart and informed financial decisions.

The campaign emphasizes that responsible lending is a shared responsibility. While the SEC is strengthening oversight and enforcement, consumers also play an important role by borrowing from regulated lenders, understanding loan terms, and borrowing within their means.

The program also reflects the broader belief that financial inclusion should go beyond access alone. As digital lending becomes more accessible, education and consumer protection are equally important to help Filipinos avoid fraud, identify legitimate lenders, and borrow with confidence and dignity.

“Through this partnership, our goal is to work with the SEC to promote safe lending practices, promote regulated credit options, and help Filipinos make smart financial decisions to avoid debt pitfalls,” said Tony Isidro, President and CEO of Fuse Financing Inc.

This move reinforces that real financial inclusion requires digital security and trust – ensuring that regulated digital credit becomes a trusted resource that helps everyday consumers thrive.

With digital lending becoming more accessible, Filipinos are encouraged to only borrow from SEC-regulated lenders, understand their loan terms, and stay informed about their rights as consumers. By choosing safe and reliable loan options and reporting suspicious lenders, consumers can protect themselves and help make borrowing safer for everyone.
