Rangers could sign their best striker since Morelos for £15m

THE long-awaited Scottish Premiership title at Ibrox after Glasgow Rangers were officially kicked out of title contention at the weekend.
Defeat to their city rivals effectively ended their campaign, with the Light Blues unable to win this division and already out of the SFA Cup and Europa League.
The Gers have never won the Premiership title since Steven Gerrard led the team to the title in 2020/21, and Danny Rohl has failed to follow in his footsteps this season.
All the team's focus must be on the summer transfer window and what can be done to ensure that the squad is better equipped to fight for the title next season.
One thing the Scottish giants must do before the start of the 2026/27 campaign is to sign a new striker to add consistency to their forward line.
Why Rangers need to sign a new midfielder
Besides having Youssef Chermiti, Bojan Miovski, and Ryan Naderi on the books, Rangers must sign another goalscorer when the summer transfer window opens.
The last reliable goalscorer the Gers had was Alfredo Morelos, who scored 124 goals in 269 games in all competitions for the club.
Morelos, who scored 17 goals and provided 13 assists in the 2020/21 campaign, contributed to the Gers' victory by scoring in big games and providing consistent quality as a goalscorer and creator.
The Colombian star, who has been praised by Gerrard for his physicality, was the focal point for Rangers in ninth place with physicality, goals and assists.
Chermiti is the club's top goalscorer, with 12 league goals, but has missed 18 'big chances' and has now shown he can be as healthy and reliable in front of goal as Morelos once was at Ibrox.

This is why Rohl must push the board to sign one of the players reported this summer as they are said to be the frontrunners in the race for the best striker.
Rangers could sign their best striker since Alfredo Morelos
In March, it was reported that Rangers were one of the clubs interested in signing Swansea midfielder Zan Vipotnik in the summer transfer window.
Premier League teams Nottingham Forest and Sunderland are also in the race to secure the signing of this Slovenian player, but according to Football FanCast sources earlier this year, the Gers are said to be ahead of the race because they may have European football to give him. That's despite a reported asking price of £15m too.
Three years ago, Rangers were linked with Championship powerhouse Viktor Gyokeres when he was at Coventry. They missed the deal with Sporting and now he has scored 21 goals for Arsenal as they have won the Premier League and Champions League.

Now the Gers must make the same mistake twice because Vipotnik's performances at Swansea in the 2025/26 campaign are very similar to Gyokeres's for Coventry three years ago.
The Swansea goalscorer won the Golden Boot in the Championship, with six more goals than the second-placed goalscorer, and did well beyond his xG of 13.42.
Unlike Chermiti and Cyril Dessers in recent seasons, who have wasted more 'big chances' than they have had in the Premiership, Vipotnik rarely misses a 'big chance' to score.
Like Morelos, the Slovenian centre-forward is a very efficient striker who can be part of a title-winning team because he is unlikely to let the team down with big misses in front of goal.
Furthermore, no Rangers striker has scored 20 or more goals in the league since Kris Boyd's 23 in the 2009/10 Premiership season, meaning Vipotnik is on course to become their top scorer in 15 years.
The Swansea star could become their best striker since Morelos and their most outstanding number nine since Boyd if the Gers can secure a deal for a sensational striker this summer.
It is now up to the board to agree a deal with the Championship club to avenge their failure to agree a deal with Coventry for Gyokeres in 2023.

Worse than Antman: The Ranger star who passed 40% doesn't have to restart
The Rangers player is not expected to start either of the final two games of the season for the Ibrox giants.
