Rangers could sign a £15m upgrade for the dream striker

A promising player with real potential, or a costly, costly mistake – how to analyze Youssef Chermiti's start to life at Glasgow Rangers?
Signed in an eyebrow-raising £8m deal last summer, after failing to score at all on Merseyside, the 21-year-old has scored 12 Premiership goals since then, all of which came following Danny Rohl's arrival at Ibrox.
He was the man in the big event, with eight goals against Hearts and Celtic alone, although that doesn't mean much, as the Portuguese is ranked second for missing 'big chances' in the Premiership.

His goals have come in spades, as he has scored in just seven league games this season, highlighting the need for a significant upgrade for the striker this summer.
All you have to do is Rangers' top strikers this summer
It's been a frenzy in recent years, with the Gers on fire, with strikers without mistakes, be it Sam Lammers, Antonio Colak or Cyril Dessers.
Another member of that list of recent mistakes is Danilo, the Brazilian now on loan at Dutch side NEC Nijmegen, who joined the Eredivisie outfit in January in a deal that included an option to buy.
His time in Glasgow looks set to come to an end, and the same could happen to Bojan Miovski, who played for Aberdeen and Girona and scored just seven league goals all season following his return to Scottish football.
Once “the best player in the league in his position”, in the view of former Dons team-mate Nicky Devlin, Miovski has looked completely different in a Rangers shirt, sparking talk of an early exit this summer.
Patience will be needed in regards to injured winter arrival Ryan Naderi, although the German has not enjoyed his first six months at Ibrox, scoring just one league goal so far.
As for Chermiti, potential suitors may come calling, following interest from Besiktas, while the Gers are perhaps more inclined to cash in this time around if a suitable suitor is found.
Rangers could sign the £15m star as they dream of Chermiti's development
With Rohl's title quest going up in smoke following four consecutive defeats, he is now focused on improving the first team ahead of a strong push next season, having failed when it mattered to break away.
There has been talk of a £5m deal for Plymouth Argyle hotshot Laurent Tolaj, with the Swiss striker enjoying a fine campaign in England's third tier, scoring 18 times.
Equally, a potentially exciting move is being planned for EFL Championship star Zan Vipotnik, with Football FanCast sources revealing in March that Rangers were in the mix for the Swansea City striker.
The suggestion at the time was that the Gers could be considered the front runners as they are likely to compete in Europe next season, putting them ahead of the likes of Sunderland in the race for his signature.
Vipotnik – reported to be worth around £15m – will not come cheap, possibly surpassing Rangers' current record signing, although he could be what the Light Blues are looking for, following a run of form in South Wales.

Rangers' most expensive signing of all time
The Gers now have new owners in 49ers Enterprises.
The 24-year-old scored just seven goals in the Championship last season, although that has been followed by 23 this season, as well as two more in the FA Cup.
That record saw him score once every 132 minutes in 2025/26, boasting a 20% goal conversion rate, while in reality he only missed 12 'big chances'.
In comparison, Chermiti has a strike rate of one every 157 minutes in the Premiership, records a goal conversion rate of just 16% and has missed 18 'chances' so far.
In the case of this last man, Rangers have gambled on possibility rather than anything proven, with Chermiti having scored only x goals before moving to Glasgow, during his time at Everton and Sporting CP.
As for Vipotnik, he netted ten goals in 40 games in Bordeaux, along with 23 goals in 50 games in Maribor, showing that this current form is not just a flash in the pan.
He is a man of energy, having scored six goals in his last seven league outings of the season, and there is a sense of urgency in Rangers who are quickly grinding to seal what could be a statement signing of the summer.
