Newcastle are completing a personal assessment of Sandro Tonali's replacement

Newcastle United face the very real prospect of losing Sandro Tonali this summer, and that has accelerated their plans to find a suitable replacement.

It could be another turbulent summer at St James' Park. After missing out on European football, Eddie Howe may be facing an exodus of talent. They have already lost Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for a whopping £69m and could still lose Tonali and left-back Lewis Hall.

Newcastle technical director Ross Wilson is close to a deal to replace Anthony Gordon.

Both departures would be heavy blows for the Magpies, the Carabao Cup winners and soon-to-be Champions League qualifiers.

However, the reality is that they were forced to learn the harsh truth about recruitment – a lesson they want to remember this summer as they pursue the likes of Victor Munoz. The Osasuna midfielder looks to have a strong chance of succeeding Gordon and is currently representing Spain at the 2026 World Cup.

That could be one situation solved for athletic director Ross Wilson, but Munoz should be just the beginning. The Tyneside side have also been tasked with replacing Tonali amid growing interest from Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal.

Newcastle are completing an assessment of the midfielder

As reported by The Athletic, Newcastle have now completed a personal assessment of Kevin Danois. The AJ Auxerre midfielder is now on their radar after impressing scouts and could be on his way to St James' Park before the end of the summer.

At 21 years old, the Frenchman is not a finished product, but he is full of potential. While some may question whether that's enough to replace Tonali, the numbers certainly make for good reading.

The young star enjoyed an excellent Ligue 1 campaign last week, excelling for Tonali in front of goal and has earned praise from Como scout Ben Mattinson, who compared him to Paris Saint-Germain's Joao Neves.

After 12 months of poor recruitment, the Danois will be a brilliant signing ready to take the Premier League by storm as an underclassman. Whether Newcastle are pushing to turn their own checks into a gift is still a big question, though.
