Mars Wrigley is cutting 307 jobs in New Jersey to move its US headquarters to Chicago
Samsung Electronics America Inc. is moving its headquarters from New Jersey to Texas, citing the business transformation for long-term growth.
Mars Wrigley has announced it will lay off hundreds of employees as it moves its headquarters from Newark, New Jersey, to an expanded facility in Chicago.
The company on Friday filed a WARN request with the state of New Jersey that indicated it will eliminate 307 jobs at its Newark headquarters by mid-October, ending the company's presence in the city.
The candy maker, part of Mars Incorporated, has a product portfolio that includes M&M's, Snickers, Milky Way, Twix and Skittles.
The move comes after the company spent $100 million to expand its location in Chicago, where its global headquarters is now located.

The New Jersey Business & Industry Association (NJBIA) said news of another high-profile company departure comes as another warning sign that the state needs to improve its business climate.
“On a summer Friday when people should be excited about the upcoming weekend, instead we are bombarded with news of the unfortunate exit of a job creator in New Jersey,” said NJBIA CEO Michele Siekerka.
“We must take this into our hands and do something now that sends a message to our major employers that things will change to stop this disturbing trend,” Siekerka added.

Mars Wrigley has indicated that it will continue to operate its manufacturing facility in Hackettstown, New Jersey, despite moving corporate operations to Chicago.
“Following a comprehensive review of our Mars Snacking North America office, we will be closing the Newark Market Hub of Mars Snacking Associates in December 2027, in line with the previously discussed move to Chicago,” Mars said in a statement. “This decision is part of our broader strategy to position Mars Snacking for long-term growth and strengthen our operations in key locations across North America.”
Mars said it will provide transportation and support options for affected employees.
Mars Inc. it acquired Chicago-based Wrigley in 2008 and has expanded its presence in the area recently after last year's acquisition of Kellanova, the maker of snacks like Pringles and Cheez-It owned by Kellogg.
NJBIA noted that New Jersey has lost more than 9,700 jobs disclosed through WARN notices this year alone, and is facing a backdrop of other high-profile departures.

In June, Samsung announced that it will move its corporate headquarters from Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, to Texas this year.
Additionally, ExxonMobil shareholders voted to change the energy giant's state of incorporation from the Garden State, where it has been controlled for 144 years when it began as Standard Oil of New Jersey, to Texas.
