Leeds are entering the race to sign an “amazing” World Cup star
Leeds United are looking to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, with Karl Darlow set to join Premier League rivals Manchester United.
It has been widely reported that Man United will sign Darlow, who was Leeds' first-choice goalkeeper for large parts of the 2025-26 season, after Lucas Perri failed to make the move.
Zion Suzuki appeared to be the target of Daniel Farke, and a contract has already been sent to the Japanese player, who started all of his team's World Cup games before exiting in the 32nd at the hands of Brazil.
However, another option has now emerged.
Leeds are entering the race to sign another Zion Suzuki
According to Football Insider, Leeds are in the race to sign Norway star Orjan Nyland, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Sevilla.
Transport spokesman Pete O'Rourke added: “He didn't hurt his chances by getting a big money contract and leaving because of his World Cup duties.
“But I think that maybe Leeds if they are looking to bring in a new number will probably have other goals before Nyland.”

Honesty |
Leeds may have lost two goalkeepers this summer, with Darlow in line to follow Illan Meslier through the exit door. Therefore, it would make a lot of sense to bring in a new option with a lot of experience, with Nyland collecting 76 caps for Norway. |

Finance |
Furthermore, the 35-year-old's availability on a free transfer makes signing him a very attractive proposition. The departure of Darlow and Meslier will also relieve the Whites' wage bill. |
|
Understanding |
The former Sevilla man has tested himself in some of Europe's biggest leagues, making 59 La Liga appearances and 20 appearances in the Bundesliga. However, he only made five league appearances for Sevilla last season, keeping one clean sheet. |
|
Impact |
Given his age, there are question marks over whether Leeds should sign the Norwegian star as their number one. However, his experience means he could step in for Perri if needed, should the 28-year-old stay at Elland Road. |
How Orjan Nyland played for Norway in the World Cup
Norway exceeded expectations at the World Cup, reaching the quarter-finals, but England ended their hopes of reaching the semi-finals for the first time in their history with a 2-1 victory after extra time in the heat of Miami.
Nyland was given the opportunity to play between the sticks as he has in all other games, except the final group game against France, but he deflected Morgan Rogers' long-range effort in extra time, leading to Jude Bellingham's second goal.
That said, while the veteran keeper made a terrible mistake, he made six saves throughout the game, and also saved a penalty against Brazil in the round of 16.
As such, Nyland, hailed as “spectacular” by journalist Joe Crann, still had plenty to offer at the top level, and his availability without a transfer fee makes him an attractive option for Leeds.
