LARRY KUDLOW: We need a big, ambitious, pro-growth budget

If Republicans want tax cuts and economic growth, they win elections. When they ignore the growth message, and especially when they ignore the growth message and spend a lot of taxpayer money, they lose the election. It's a simple formula, and I'm worried they're about to make a big mistake.

It is not that our economy is collapsing, it is certainly doing very well during the war. But there is $4 gas and prices are still going up. And accessibility is important. And even a reliable TIPP poll shows that four in 10 voters think their taxes are higher this year, and only one in ten think they are lower. This despite the numerous tax cuts in the One, Big, Good Bill, which sadly was not sold to the American voters properly.

Last night, I respectfully raised this with the Senate Republican leadership, Shelley Moore Capito. “I don't understand what you're all doing with these bills. You're not going to issue any more money,” said the Department of Homeland Security. “No tax cuts, no indexing to inflation for big profits, no military additions to the Pentagon, no voting rights bill, no spending, fraud and abuse.”

I added: “Senator Capito, you have to help me because I don't understand. I think you're all going down the wrong road, mom” And he defended the small bill.

However I think there will be room for one major budget bill to pass with 50 votes and a vice president. This is a reconciliation process. As things stand now, the Senate is pushing a so-called “black” bill that just funds ICE and CBP for 3.5 years, for about $70 billion.

I am now with border protection and ICE and Customs. Ironically, however, all of DHS, the Coast Guard, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the Transportation Security Administration are also excluded from the bill. Then again, the rest of the world wants to change voting rights to require photo identification and proof of citizenship. But the GOP ignores that. Go find out. For $4 gas, the damage necessary to destroy Iran, which I fully support, is a small price to pay. however, working people can spend more money in their pockets with additional tax cuts.

Going back to President Reagan, supply-side tax cuts have been a positive hit with voters. President George W. Bush won the midterms by protecting America from jihadists and across-the-board tax cuts. That was in 2002. An inflation-indexed gain may boost home sales to help lower housing prices. A reduction in marginal tax rates at least for middle income earners. And what about waste, fraud, and abuse?

The director of Medicare, Mehmet Oz, has already received $ 100 billion in Los Angeles alone. Where is that in this budget? What about filling DOGE waste, fraud, and abuse? Hundreds of billions of dollars multiplied over 10 years would be incredible deficit reduction, in addition to a growing economy.

So far, we have heard nothing about these important policies. And they are popular policies. And my best guess is that there will only be one bite at the financial apple, just like last year when I made the exact same argument. Let's have popular policies that will attract all Republicans to a very strong budget bill that will show real leadership and success in the midterm elections.

Please stop telling me what you can't do and instead start telling working people everywhere what can be done to help them and make America great again. That's a mid-year win.
