Everton are now leading the race to sign the former Millwall star, with formal talks set to take place

Everton are now in a good position to sign Genoa star Brooke Norton-Cuffy, and are set to hold official talks.

The former Millwall man is an England U21 international with 14 caps, and made 40 appearances for the Lions in the 2023-24 Championship season, which earned him a move to Genoa, where he has become a first-team regular.

In the 2025-26 campaign, the London-born defender made 27 appearances in Serie A, showing his ability going forward by creating 22 chances and an average of 1.3 successful shots in 90, which is the third highest number in the Genoa team.

That is in line with the evaluation of defender Ben Mattinson, who has been hailed as a “bad man” by the Como scout, who has also likened him to Chelsea star Reece James.

The Toffees could do with signing a new right-back, following the departure of Seamus Coleman, and Norton-Cuffy appears to be a target.

Everton are preparing talks to sign Brooke Norton-Cuffy

According to a report from GenoaOggi (via Sport Witness), Everton will hold formal talks to secure the signing of the Genoa star, and are now leading the race, despite Fulham's interest.

The deal could be in the region of fifteen million euros (£13m), meaning the ex-Millwall star could be a bargain for David Moyes' side.

Honesty

Not only does Coleman's departure leave a hole in the squad, but Everton may need to bring in an upgrade for Nathan Patterson. The former Rangers man struggled last season, and was limited to just 240 minutes of game time in the Premier League. Therefore, Norton-Cuffy can be a smart addition.

Finance

£13m should be more than affordable for the Premier League side, and will leave Moyes with money to strengthen other areas of the squad.

Understanding

As highlighted, the Genoa defender is impressive from an attacking point of view, However, he also averaged 1.7 tackles per 90 in Serie A last season, which was more than any member of Moyes' defense.

Impact

If the Toffees manage to get a deal over the line, they may opt to shelve plans to sign Rico Lewis. However, that may disappoint Moyes, as the Scot is keen to bring the Manchester City defender to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton are in pursuit of a new defender

With Coleman leaving and Patterson struggling to make an impact, Everton have been ramping up their pursuit of a defender in recent weeks, with Tottenham Hotspur's Djed Spence emerging as one of their top targets.

The England World Cup star can play on both sides of defence, and if the Merseysiders sign him, he could fight for Jake O'Brien's place in the starting XI.

Jake O'Brien

O'Brien, a full-back by trade, was deployed on the right last season, and amassed 3,124 minutes of game time in the Premier League, but may want to return to his natural position.
