De Zerbi must sell the Spurs flop which was worse than Kolo Muani vs Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur were beaten by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and this tough relegation battle will go down to the wire.

A trip to west London doesn't usually bear fruit for Spurs, but Roberto De Zerbi's side couldn't keep up with the normal course of things tonight, with poor form needing to be reversed on the final day of the campaign to avoid a humiliating relegation to the Championship.

17th place in the Premier League for the second year running. A lot needs to change at Hotspur Way this summer, and the first port should get Randal Kolo Muani out the door.

What a loan disaster.

Kolo Muani's shocking latest performance for Spurs

Kolo Muani's hospital pass led to Andrey Santos' second-half goal, extending Chelsea's advantage and proving too much for Tottenham to recover from.

It's really a disaster. How much would that cost for a weekend? Kolo Muani suffered from the attack by Spurs this season, he could not move in any way which made him in high discussions in Germany, Italy and France.

He couldn't add to his solitary Premier League goal this season, and now, Kolo Muani really needs to be benched for Tottenham's final Premier League game of the season – perhaps, unthinkably, their last for at least 15 months.

After joining the club from Paris Saint-Germain on a season-long loan last summer, the Les Bleus star has never been anywhere close to expectations. Of course, he's only part of Londoners' wider problems, but this was a frustrating show.

Kolo Muani dropped all four balls he tried to pass, losing the ball 15 times without opening a single chance.

He wasn't the only Spurs star to praise the trick at Stamford Bridge. Another permanent member of the outfit needs to go now, as it is far below standard.

Spurs flop must be sold this summer

Through no fault of his own, Destiny Udogie has been hampered by injury over the last few years at Tottenham, but this has taken him away from the world-class opportunities that were available when he made his debut in English football, under Ange Postecoglou.

If it's promising, the 23-year-old could be following Kolo Muani out the door this summer, the weak link again against Chelsea. It is clear that De Zerbi needs to make changes this summer, with Udogie's poor injury record and negative impact putting him in the firing line.

He was replaced by Djed Spence after 69 minutes, looking somewhat confused. Was he frustrated by his performance, or could the Italian international have been unlucky on the injury front?

In any case, something now needs to give. Not only did Udogie play the ball repeatedly, but he failed to make a single shot and did not create a single chance, he also made three mistakes that hindered the Spurs' sequence, he failed to connect with Mathys Tel.

Tottenham signed Souza from Santos in January, the young left-back has been eyeing big things. In addition, they are expected to review Andy Robertson's deal when his Liverpool contract expires this summer. Spence can also play left tackle.

All of which means it's probably time for Spurs to cut their losses on Udogie, who hasn't enjoyed a long spell in a Tottenham shirt, with Juventus reportedly registering their interest in February.

Destiny Udogie for Tottenham

Stamford Bridge has never been an exciting battleground for the Lilywhites, but there was an air of frustration with the departing fans as they made their way home.

Tottenham may have found something against the Blues, and while De Zerbi is confident his side can avoid relegation with a point against Everton, he certainly got a clear picture of what he needs to fix this summer, with Udogie coming out of opportunities to prove his worth to this team.

Luka Vuskovic is not the only exciting young player at Spurs.
