Aston Villa have officially joined the race to sign the £43m winger

Aston Villa may need to enter the market to sign a marquee striker in the summer transfer window as clubs move around their star player Morgan Rogers.

Premier League champions Arsenal are reportedly seeking a deal to sign the England international, who is valued at around £100m from the Villans this season.

The 23-year-old star, who is currently in the World Cup with England, is said to want to go to the Emirates to meet his international colleagues Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka.

It is now down to the Gunners, and any other interested parties, to put a £100m bid on the table for Villa to consider before a move is considered a real possibility.

Grealish scored 14 goals and 15 assists in the Premier League for the Villans across the 2019/20 and 2020/21 campaigns before completing his then British record transfer to City.

Now, Unai Emery and the recruitment team are reportedly eyeing a player who could become the club's next version of the English left-back.

According to Foot Mercato, Aston Villa are one of the many clubs interested in signing West Ham United midfielder Crysencio Summerville in the summer transfer window.

The report claims that the Villans, Tottenham Hotspur, and Arsenal have all 'officially' joined the race to secure the signing of the Netherlands international this off-season.

He adds that the Hammers want at least £43m for the former Leeds United striker, even though he has been relegated from the Premier League this year, and that their valuation could rise as more clubs start to pursue him.

Foot Mercato also revealed that Champions League champions Paris Saint-Germain are also eyeing the winger, which shows how difficult it will be for Villa to win the race for his services in the coming weeks.

The Villans should push to win the race for the £43m star, regardless of what other clubs are interested in him, as he could be Emery's version of Grealish.

Despite being released by the Hammers, Summerville has shown plenty of signs of quality at the London Stadium in the 2025/26 campaign, and has a style of play that can match Villa's style of play.

Emery likes to have dynamic and flexible players in three attacking midfield roles behind Ollie Watkins so that the team can be effective on the break, which is where the Dutchman, described as a “1v1 monster” by scout Ben Mattinson, thrives.

The fact that no full-back in the Premier League was more fouled than Summerville last season speaks volumes for his ability to carry the ball upfield, as defenders must regularly bring him down to stop his progress.

It was the same for Grealish when he was in his prime at Villa. He topped the fouls category in both the 2019/20 and 2020/21 campaigns before his £100m move to City, as defenders chose to harass him because they couldn't get him off the ball otherwise.

Summerville, who scored against Sweden in the World Cup on Saturday, will pose a similar threat on the left side with his ability to handle the ball, either winning a pass or advancing the ball up the pitch on the break.

The 24-year-old star also showed glimpses of his quality in the final third. He scored five goals in 31 games in the Premier League for West Ham, and he has scored two goals in two games for the Netherlands in the World Cup.

Summerville also produced 19 goals and nine assists in the 2023/24 Championship campaign with Leeds United, before moving to London, showing the kind of consistent quality he can provide to a team challenging at the bottom of the table.

Therefore, Villa can replace Rogers and find their next version of Grealish quickly to sign the axed star, but they must first overcome PSG's rivalry with Arsenal.
