Arsenal give Bradley Barcola a boost as Liverpool reporter shares Anfield woes

Arsenal's pursuit of Bradley Barcola continues to gain momentum as Mikel Arteta looks to add another quality attacking option ahead of the new season.

The PSG winger has been heavily linked with the Gunners this summer, with Arsenal understood to admire his pace, direct running and ability to play across the front line.

While any deal would be extremely difficult if PSG do not want to weaken their squad, Barcola remains one of the most prominent names on Arsenal's shortlist as they continue to search for greater attacking depth.

Honesty

Lewis Steele is regarded as a reliable Liverpool reporter with strong connections at Anfield, particularly on club-specific developments and contract situations. Although he is not primarily known for breaking special transfers, his knowledge is often well-received, especially when reporting on Liverpool's plans, moves and internal decision-making processes.

Finance

Going to Barcola can be very difficult. PSG consider him an important player, meaning any deal would require more than £116m. Arsenal have the financial strength to compete, but that level of spending is likely to be dependent on significant sales and PSG softening their current situation.

Understanding

Barcola came through Lyon's academy before establishing himself in the first team, with a big-money move to Paris following 2023. There, he has developed into a regular starter, won a number of major trophies and has broken into France's senior team with his consistent performances.

Impact

Barcola will add another level of pace and confidence to Arsenal's attack. His willingness to run directly at defenders will open up space for his teammates, while his increased productivity will ease the burden on Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Noni Madueke. At the age of 23, he also offers the chance to develop further under Arteta.

Now, respected Liverpool journalist Lewis Steele believes Arsenal could have a significant opportunity if the Frenchman decides he wants a new challenge.

Speaking of Anfield Index podcast, Steele suggested that Barcola may view Arsenal as a more attractive destination than Liverpool for a number of reasons.

“He has a decision to make and he can choose Arsenal,” said Steele.

Steele believes Arteta's lifestyle and reputation could influence the player's thinking if a transfer does happen.

“Maybe you're watching [Mikel] Arteta, and would like to stay in the capital of London. “

He also doubted that Liverpool currently holds the same request as it once did for players competing for major honors in Europe.

“Liverpool is not as good an option as it might have been 12 months ago.”

Those comments will fuel further speculation about Arsenal's interest, although convincing PSG to negotiate is another matter entirely.

That's what Barcola will bring to Arsenal in a £116m-plus deal

Barcola has developed into one of Europe's most exciting young players since arriving at Lyon in 2023.

His pace, close control and confidence in one-v-one situations have made him a regular at PSG, and his numbers have continued to improve each season.

Overall, despite a slight dip last campaign in terms of goals and assists, the former Lyon star has bagged 39 goals and 37 assists in 152 appearances for the Ligue 1 and European champions.

His willingness to attack defenders directly has been one of his greatest strengths, while his movement away from the ball allows him to create space for his teammates.

Those qualities are the kind of profile Arsenal have been looking for.

The 23-year-old, who has scored in three of France's four World Cup games so far this summer, would be a real statement signing, although the Gunners may need to shell out north of £116 million.

Arsenal already have one of the strongest squads in the Premier League, but adding a player who combines superb pace with proven quality will take their attack to another level.
