Another month with Arccos data showed me that there is still hope

I spent the last four weeks tracking my game with Arccos Golf for the second month in a row. If you missed the first update you can read that here. At the beginning of this year, with my first set of track laps, I struggled a lot with the driver. That struggle found its way into other parts of the bag, and I felt very lost about my game. I knew every other club in my bag was dialed in, but the driver's grief brought everything down. And I was missing the green from 25 yards. Not good. Let's dive into the latest set of data. Spoiler alert: it's all smiles over here.
I played 10 rounds of golf in the month of May, and I have to say I was a bit of a heater when it came to places. I started the month playing at Arcadia Bluffs, followed by the Korn Ferry stop Sycamore Hills, and finished this set of cycles with my first trip to Pebble Beach. I shot the lowest of my 9 holes at Sycamore Hills by birdieing the first three holes and chipping in for birdie on the 8th, and by the time Pebble came around my off-the-tee performance was more than dialed in; now with some extra tools at the end of the bag. Here is a look at my performance for the entire month. Oh, and I'm ranking as a MONSTER right now thanks to the help of Steven Sweeney.

The biggest changes you'll notice is that I'm no longer losing strokes off the tee, and I'm gaining crazy strokes on the greens. My current placement is not really true. I have never felt so free in my life. I got my custom TaylorMade Spider locked and loaded and it will be very difficult to get it out of my bag. Combined with an amazing day spent with our new team member Stephen Sweeney, it's nice to have one less thing to worry about. It makes planning the downs and ups less stressful, and if I'm green in control (which is a problem you can see in strokes gained) there's a good chance I'll give the hole a scare for a birdie putt.
Now let's talk about the method and the short strokes of the game that won the loss. I have to be honest, I also went into the data to find out what I thought was going wrong here, and by the way I came to the conclusion that I was always guessing my team's numbers. I try to be more specific about what number I hit instead of playing for a +- 3-yard target which is suggested to me by many coaches.
For example. A 171 yard pin is a strange distance for me. The 8-iron won't get there but the 7-iron will. A lot of times I'll try and hit an 8 iron on the hole, or fail to squeeze in a 7 iron, rather than just hit a slow 7 iron and be ready to go long.
I also need to do a better job of managing when the hole is green, which the Arccos Smart Laser has helped with a TON. Knowing where the pin is on the green is huge, and it made the last few rounds better. In that 171 yard situation I would hit an 8 iron from the back pin, or a 7 iron from the front pin. The way I putt, I have a lot of confidence to drive the ball closer, but not having a green in the fairway takes that big power away from my hands, and I need to make sure I use it as much as possible.
You can see here in this shot, the stats unfortunately aren't any better at short distances either. A major improvement should be made in the way strategies are implemented in those areas. Hitting the ball and equipment is not a problem; Awareness is something. It's clear from this screenshot that I just need to get the green ball. My GIR approximation is much better than when I second-guessed myself. Shocking.

Going back on a good note to end our monthly blog here, I'm going to show driving and putting stats. Walking off the tee with confidence and knowing that I'm hitting 3-putts has been an amazing confidence booster.

Overall I'm happy with the month. I feel like I'm in a much better position to succeed, and because of the data and some heavy thinking I understand what I need to do to score even better and make sure we can get the handicap in a good position and continue to play better and better golf. I aim to shoot a few rounds under this year, and that goal feels more attainable than ever. I am looking forward to June. Many golfers lined up!
