A dream XI Rangers can build

Glasgow Rangers need to make major changes to their team that will fight for the Scottish Premiership title next season after being deprived of ten points in first place this year.
Danny Rohl has already moved to bring Lawrence Shankland on a permanent deal from Hearts to bolster his options at the other end of the pitch, after the Scot scored 16 league goals in the 2025/26 campaign.
Signing the 30-year-old should be a start for the Light Blues, however, as they need to improve starters across the pitch to form a dream XI next season.
He has a goalkeeper and defense
From between the sticks, Jack Butland could be replaced in the starting line-up. He still has one year left on his contract and finished the 2025/26 season with seven mistakes that led to a shot or goals in the Premiership, which is the best in this division.
The Gers were linked with Sheffield Wednesday's Pierce Charles, who could be worth £5m and has worked with Rohl in the past, after he made just one mistake that led to a shot or goal in the Championship this season.
Rangers already know they have to lock down James Tavernier at right-back, as he will leave at the end of this month, while Hammarby right-back Hampus Skoglund could arrive for £2m.
The Gers are reportedly leading the race to sign Dundee star Luke Graham as a left-back. He is expected to cost more than £1.5m, possibly £2m or more, and it will be better for John Souttar.
Bringing in these signings would leave Rohl and Charles in goal with the back four of Skoglund, Emmanuel Fernandez, Graham, and Tuur Rommens.
In the middle
As the Germans tend to favor a 4-2-2-2 formation towards the end of the season, the midfielder in this dream configuration combines two central midfielders.
Tochi Chukwuani was signed in the January transfer window from Sturm Graz and could be relied upon to start in midfield again in the 2025/26 campaign, but the Gers may need to replace Nicolas Raskin.
The Scottish giants are reportedly looking to secure pledges for the Belgium international, and are set to target Motherwell star Elliot Watt as a possible replacement.
He is worth around £3m for the Premiership side and that could be a bargain for the Light Blues based on his form in the league this season, as the 26-year-old ace ranks highly among his peers in key metrics.
Watt will arrive at Ibrox as a proven Premiership player who can hit the ground running in Raskin's place, offering quality, defensive strength and movement in midfield.
An attack
Djedi Gassama and Shankland should be locked in as the two starters from the current team in attack, leaving one wide area and one of the strikers involved in the debate.
It has recently been reported that the Ibrox giants want to bring Mikey Moore back to the club on a second loan after spending the 2025/26 campaign on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, and he would be an excellent addition.

The 18-year-old scored 14 goals and created a combined 'big chances' in the league, and could take his game to the next level in the 2026/27 season after a year's experience at the top level under his belt.
Bringing Moore back on loan will save the club millions in signing a new midfielder to play behind the two centre-backs, freeing up more money to sign a potential replacement for Youssef Chermiti.
Galatasaray, Feyenoord, PSV, and Besiktas are reportedly eyeing the number nine after scoring 15 league goals for the Gers this season, with a £25m price tag on the former Everton man's head.
If the Portugal U21 international moves for a record fee, Rangers must pay the £4m fee demanded by Motherwell centre-forward Tawanda Maswanhise, who won the Premiership Golden Boot with 17 goals.
The Zimbabwean knocked Shankland and Chermiti out of the league with his 17 strikes, 22 in all competitions, and will meet the former Hearts captain at Ibrox.
There could be a lot of change at Ibrox this summer, which is good after falling ten points adrift in the title, and this new dream XI will include £16m of new signings, as well as the free signing of Shankland and a loan deal for Moore.

On paper, this XI looks a vast improvement on what Rohl had to work with last season, given the goal threat and proven Premiership players signed, which is why the club must work hard to make these deals.

Rangers must push to sign the £4m-rated star who could match Alfredo Morelos in his first spell under Danny Rohl.
