The Magic continue to be scorned by sports books

April and May are arguably some of the best times of the year for sports. With the NFL, we get good playoff games, but those are usually only two days a week. October baseball has a magical feel to it, but I personally feel like the three Wild Card teams took a little away from that.

With the NHL and NBA, we almost have nightly action every few weeks, and the games are usually great. Tonight, we have two NBA games, and the first is between the Orlando Magic and the Detroit Pistons in Game 2.

The Magic come into this one having already taken home court advantage over the upstart Pistons. I was not one of the people who thought that Orlando would be swept, but I believed that the Pistons would be able to advance without much trouble. In Game 1, the Magic didn't really struggle.

Remember, this team lost to the 76ers in the Play-In Game, and then had to go home and beat an underdog Hornets team. The Hornets game turned into a mockery as they destroyed them. Beating the Pistons in Detroit was no surprise, but to me, the biggest surprise was that they outscored Detroit in three of four quarters. Paolo Banchero was impressive as usual, scoring 23 points and grabbing a team-high nine rebounds. All five starters scored 16 points or more. That's the key to the Magic's success – the team's contributions, and Banchero's best.

The Pistons have probably realized that everyone thinks the sky is falling for them. Not really. Many teams lose Game 1 and come back to win the series. It's usually a bit of a wake-up call. However, the bigger problem is that the Pistons shouldn't need a wake-up call. They won nothing and are still growing as a team. They should have been hungry and looking to take an immediate lead. Cade Cunningham was his usual brilliant self, scoring 39 points. However, only one other player on his team reached double digits in scoring. Most of the talking heads blamed this game on Jalen Duren. He had just eight points in 33 minutes. Expect at least double that from him if the Pistons want to contend.

Game 2 is often about adjustments.

You will see the zig-zag theory a bit, but this is not always the case. With magic, you don't really think you need to make any changes. They shot about 50% from the floor, but hit about 30% from three. Their defense held the Pistons to 101 points and 40% shooting. This game will be about controlling the glass and getting the team involved in Detroit. The problem is that this is not a good game for the Pistons.

Suggs is a good defender (even if Cade hit about 40 on him). Wendell Carter Jr. he is an honorable protector of Duren. Desmond Bane and Franz Wagner are better players than the Pistons have. I gave magic +8.5 here. I think Detroit wins, but the points awarded do not honor the Magic. I also like Duren to get a double-double, but at -188 he's not worth playing.
