Former Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer returns to Mexico as MLB continues to lock him out

Trevor Bauer returns to Mexico … another reminder that no matter how well he plays, Major League Baseball is always reluctant to welcome him.

After dominating the Atlantic League with the Long Island Ducks, where he broke franchise hitting records and threw seven no-hitters, the 35-year-old right-hander is returning to Mexico: he has officially re-signed with the Diablos Rojos.

Bauer returns to the club where he went 10-0 during his 2024 run, not because he has no options on the mound, but because he has run out of serious players in the majors.

In seven starts for the Herd, Bauer posted an impressive 5-1 record with a 2.36 ERA, including 66 strikeouts against seven walks in 42 innings.

The 2020 National League Cy Young Award winner is not playing south of the border because of the talent shortage.

Bauer is still in exile following the league suspension that forever changed the trajectory of his career.

Commissioner Rob Manfred initially handed Bauer an unprecedented 324-game suspension, which an independent arbitrator later reduced to 192 games.

As a result, Bauer forfeited approximately $37.5 million of his $102 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers ended up releasing him anyway, choosing to pay the remainder of the deal rather than keep him on the roster.

The fire started with allegations made by Lindsey Hill. While the media heavily reported the initial allegations, the public narrative changed dramatically when more explosive evidence emerged.

Bauer was never charged with a crime, and text messages later surfaced showing Hill openly talking about schemes to target a wealthy athlete for financial gain.

Their legal dispute ended up at zero dollars, with neither side paying the other.

Without an official ruling, Bauer's path back to Major League Baseball remains blocked.

Major league teams continue to give valuable innings to struggling starters while stressing to fans that they are doing everything they can to win.

Interruption cannot be ignored.

Bauer has spent the last few years getting back into the conversation. He won in Japan, dominated in Mexico, rebuilt his public image through his digital platforms and just completed a strong showing in Long Island.
