Houston Texans pick Kayden McDonald is on a real tear in the 2026 NFL Draft
Kayden McDonald thought he would be selected a person in the first round of the NFL Draft. But when that didn't happen, he and his family had to decide whether to stay in the green room for the second round or go out in front of the cameras.
McDonald returned to the green room on Friday and, judging by what happened when he was selected by the Houston Texans, it was all for the young man.

When his name was called, McDonald began to cry.

As we speak, tears are flowing as he hugs his family. And more tears as he went to the stage. And even more so as he welcomes NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Good. Liberation.
But it didn't end there. McDonald couldn't keep the faucet off his eyes as he spoke to ESPN on-stage reporter Laura Rutledge.
It was a real sea of tears.

And pure joy.
“It hurts, man,” McDonald said during the move. “I know I'm supposed to be here. I'm just blessed. Thank you so much. I just feel the breath, like when I come out. It's a blessing.”
McDonald is from Suwanee, Georgia, and his neighborhood was not what many would consider tough or poor – not rich, either, but far from it.

McDonald is also generally described as coming from a stable, supportive family. His parents were instrumental in his recruiting process that led him to Ohio State.
This is a high-character, straightforward prospect, multiple NFL scouts told OutKick before the draft.
And yet, McDonald's reality is that he went from the improbable to the second round of the NFL draft. And that moved him.
Then it shook us because he took her on national television.
And that's where we sometimes forget, as we watch these athletes make their way to notoriety, acclaim, and, yes, fortune, that the journey comes at a price.
It can be a journey full of hard work and setbacks but also full of success and rewards. Either way, it costs money.

So reaching the pinnacle of being elected to the draft is a defining moment in the lives of these men.
They all obviously know this. Others celebrate it with a smile or with joy.
Others celebrated it with tears of joy as they released it.
