5 American passengers arrested after harbor fight in Bahamas – National

Authorities in the Bahamas say they have arrested five American cruise ship passengers after a standoff in Nassau harbor that was followed by a “violent struggle” with police.
On Tuesday, the Royal Bahamas Police Force said recreational officers arrested five Americans, three women and two men, on multiple charges following an incident at the Nassau Cruise Port on Monday.
“According to initial reports, shortly after 4:00 p.m., police were alerted to a dispute involving cruise passengers at the Nassau Cruise Port. Police responded, with the assistance of additional officers, and arrested three women and two men.” The complainant was called to the police station to give a statement.

Officials say that when he arrived at the station, the police were preparing to search the arrested people and during this process, “it is reported that a violent struggle broke out between the police and the five suspects.”
“One female suspect allegedly threw a chair at the glass door to the south, which broke. The male suspect then kicked the remaining glass and tried to run away, but the police were overpowered,” said the Department.

A team of additional police has been requested to help restore the situation, the police added.
The video, obtained by Our News Bahamas, appears to show several people being pushed to the ground and a man exiting the damaged door before police apprehend him.
Five passengers suffered minor injuries during the altercation at the port and were treated for minor injuries, authorities said.

“Due to the altercation at the police station, many policemen's uniforms were damaged, four policemen received various injuries, two policemen were reportedly beaten to death, one had a broken mouth, the fourth was seriously injured on the left shoulder, and was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment,” said the police.
Police said the condition of the injured officer was not known when he was released and did not name the suspects, the cruise ship or the cruise line they were traveling on.
Five suspects are still in custody and the police said the investigation is ongoing.
