Ken Griffin says Citadel will take down Miami again amid NYC's mayoral debate

Billionaire and Citadel CEO Ken Griffin reiterated his company's intentions to “double down” by moving to Miami after his feud with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

“When we left Chicago, there was a debate between New York and Miami,” Griffin said at the 2026 Milken Institute conference on Tuesday. “It is undoubtedly true that we made the right choice. I will leave it at that.”

Griffin was responding to Mamdani's Tax Day video, highlighting Griffin's Manhattan penthouse while announcing the new pied-à-terre tax.

He called the video “surprising and strange” and urged his New York business colleagues to continue investing in liberal cities like Miami.

“Now what the mayor of New York has made clear to our partners, and especially to our New York partners, is that we need to double our bet in Miami because we want to be in a state that welcomes business, welcomes education, welcomes personal freedom and liberty,” he said. “And that includes people having the opportunity to live the American dream, the dream of earned success, not the dream of distributing handouts that leave people dependent on the government for their lives and livelihoods in a way that removes their dignity and dignity.”

“We have seen a great migration of business leadership from California to Texas and Florida. Mamdani makes it very clear. New York does not accept success,” added Griffin.

A statement sent by Fox News Digital reads, “Mayor Mamdani wants all New Yorkers to succeed. That includes business owners and entrepreneurs who create good-paying jobs and make this city America's economic engine. That includes Ken Griffin, who is the largest employer in our City and a powerful figure in our economy.”

The statement continued, “That is not true, however, that our tax system is fundamentally broken. It rewards the extreme wealth while working people are pushed to the margins. The status quo is unsustainable and unfair. If we want this city to be a place that working people can afford, we need meaningful tax reform that includes the wealthiest New Yorkers paying their fair share.”
