What happened to Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester, Oxford and Portsmouth at West Brom was a reduction in points

West Bromwich Albion could face a points penalty this season for a possible breach of the EFL's Profitability & Sustainability rules.
West Brom are at risk of points being deducted over the EFL charge
The Telegraph revealed on Monday that the Club Financial Reporting Unit (CFRU) had lodged a compliance report with the Baggies for breaching the loss limits for the 2024-25 season under the EFL's P&S rules.
It is understood West Brom have 14 days from receipt of the CFRU compliance report to file a response and any hearing must take place within 28 days of the compliance report being sent.
The group has since released a statement denying its innocence.
West Bromwich Albion acknowledges media reports relating to the club's compliance with the EFL's Profitability & Sustainability (P&S) rules.
The club considers that it has fully complied with the P&S rules. The club will continue to co-operate with the EFL's Club Financial Reporting Unit and look forward to resolving this matter.
Albion understand the fans' concerns and thank the fans for their unwavering support for the club, whose success on the pitch during the last four games of the season remains our absolute priority.
It would be inappropriate for the club to comment further at this time.
Under the penalty guidelines, any sanctions must be applied in the season following the breach – which means if a points penalty is issued it will affect Albion's points total for the season.
That could have a huge impact on James Morrison's side, but what will it mean for their rivals?

Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday have already been relegated after suffering a points deduction due to ongoing problems with takeovers.
The Owls sit on 4 points and are on a campaign against Dejphon Chansiri, while David Stroch's Arise Capital consortium is making good moves to get the club out of administration.
Despite this, Wednesday are also at risk of a new 15 point deduction next season, unless they can pay off Chansiri's £15m debt.
Leicester City
Leicester are currently sitting on 41 points after being stripped of six points, having recently lost a controversial decision.
The Foxes are four points from safety but have one less side to climb if the Baggies are picked up, meaning they will only need to hold Oxford or Portsmouth to secure safety.
Oxford United
Oxford got a big result at the weekend with a 2-0 win over Watford, leaving them just a point from safety and big winners if West Brom are punished.
A draw for the Baggies would lift Matt Bloomfield's side to 21st and safe for another season as things stand.
Portsmouth
Portsmouth have a game in hand on their rivals, welcoming Ipswich Town to Fratton Park on Tuesday, where a win will take them four points clear of the bottom three.
If West Brom are points in the coming weeks, Pompey will move up to 20th place even if they lose against chasing Ipswich.
