Morrison must bench the West Brom flop who lost 11 duels

The love continues for James Morrison in his wonderful West Bromwich Albion world after getting another good result against Millwall on Friday night.

His Baggies side held the runners-up to a 0-0 draw at The Hawthorns, and had the better chances of securing the three points against the Lions.

West Brom are unbeaten in seven Championship games under the interim manager, who have lost just one of their eight games in total, and are on course to avoid relegation to League One.

It remains to be seen whether survival will be enough to secure the former Baggies midfielder a permanent job, but he can continue to produce impressive results.

In order to continue to get wins and pull points to move into the bottom three, Morrison needs to help the people on his team improve, including Isaac Price.

What Isaac Price needs is to improve after the draw with Millwall

The Northern Ireland international has provided the Baggies with explosive possession this season, scoring eight goals and creating seven 'big chances' in the Championship.

Price's next step is to add consistency to his play at the other end of the pitch so he can cut through disappointing performances, such as his performance on Friday against Millwall.

The former Standard Liege star puts himself in a number of good positions and has the quality to deliver excellent balls into the box, but he finished the game against the Lions with just two crosses from 13 attempts.

Price was not entirely successful, as he created six chances and one 'big chance', but lost the ball 22 times while creating those chances.

The 22-year-old star needs to improve on choosing the best moments to play the last pass or cross the ball to avoid losing the ball in failed attempts to create chances, so he can be more efficient and successful as a creator.

Worse than Price: West Brom's under-performer must be sacked

Although Price needs to improve his decision-making at the other end of the pitch, the Northern Irish star was not the worst performer against Millwall.

Daryl Dike started in the starting line-up alongside Aune Heggebo for the first time since the 1-1 draw with Southampton on 11 March, and failed to impress.

The USA player, who may still have hope of joining the squad that will play at home in the World Cup this summer, will not impress Mauricio Pochettino with the way he played against the Lions.

Dike has played 20 games without a goal for the Baggies in all competitions. His last competitive goal for the club was a 5-3 win over Luton in May 2025 at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Against Millwall, the American striker had three chances, including a 'great chance', to score, and failed to register a single shot at his team, as he appeared toothless in front of goal.

The former Barnsley star also lost 11 out of 16 duels on the ground and in the air, showing that he was dominated by the Millwall central defenders, and that meant he did not provide an effective point in the central focus area.

Heggebo, on the other hand, won four of his seven duels, including three of his four aerial fights, and was more successful in his physical altercations with Jake Cooper and Caleb Taylor.

Dike provided very little in attack, with no key passes and no shots on target, and struggled to keep up with the physicality of the game, meaning he did not play well out of possession for the Baggies.

He was worse than Price, who created at least six chances for the team, and should be dropped by Morrison when they face Preston North End at Deepdale next weekend.

Josh Maja should return to the team to replace the American striker as he has scored two goals in his last four Championship appearances and could provide a major threat in the final third.
