Stargate Stars And Over 100,000 Fans Strong In The Last Reboot Application

For a while, it looked like fans would get their favorite show rebooted into something new, but it wasn't meant to be. Amazon Studios has canceled its planned renewal of the The Stargatewhich devastated the cast, crew and fans in equal measure. A veteran would help The Stargate author Martin Gero. Other major producers include those who had a direct hand in the creation of the original film, Stargate SG-1 again Stargate: Atlantis. Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin co-wrote the movie, and Emmerich directed it.

Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi, who have long been associated with the Stargate franchise, were also brought on board, along with Joey Harold and Tory Tunnell. This revival and the creative team behind it had the power to deliver The Stargate back to the present. It was then that the show hit a snag that led to it being canceled by Amazon Studios.

Amazon management completely misses the point (drama made)

Gero and others involved, including the same actors SG-1 star Michael Shanks and sci-fi actor Robert Patrick, urged fans to push back against this decision by Amazon Studios. Creators and actors were so invested in the quality of their content that they were willing to speak publicly. Fans rallied behind the players, and #SaveStargate soon gained momentum on social media. There has been a Change.org petition that has received over 113,000 signatures as of this writing. Fans have created websites dedicated to saving Stargate. That's how deeply fans feel about the Stargate franchise.

Incorrect Boot Logic

The reason given by Amazon Studios for canceling the reboot is that they feel the show will only appeal to the original fans and not to the “modern audience”. We really need more than what you describe. Modern audiences don't watch science fiction; they just want everyone to hold their own world view and have diversity and messages that twist the story so deeply that it's not what the fans want.

Many other revivals that were canceled or died after the first season often saw the cast and crew criticize fans for not listening to their show. We've since watched Sabrina and rebooted You are enchanted come and go with characters that don't remind us of anything we loved about the first series. We are given instructions on what the message should be. You can't watch any kind of programming anymore without the “modern agenda” being forced into it, so tightly packed that it bears no resemblance to the original, but checks corporate boxes on metrics that loosely include. That's all the studios seem to care about, even if they cost billions of dollars.

That's something Amazon didn't fully understand or want to understand. Maybe the revival didn't check their corporate boxes enough to avoid the backlash from a few vocal people who want these companies on their knees.

Here's the thing though: if the quality of the show and the storytelling is good, it will bring fans. With Gero and others leading the way, early fans would flock to the Stargate. Word of mouth would spread about how great it was. Those fans may want to share it with their friends and family. That brings in more viewers and more of those metrics the company is looking at. SG-1 he ran for ten years. Atlantis it lasted five seasons, too The atmosphere it only lasted two before it was canceled with many plots still unresolved. They later released a comic book to help tie up some of those loose ends.

If done right, Stargate has the potential to stay with fans who wanted to watch shows that had good storytelling and emotional weight. It was axed because it didn't appeal to a modern audience. That doesn't mean Amazon Studios is done with Stargate; they don't just go ahead with the product helped by Gero and others. We'll see if this bold strategy pays off for them, or if their future revival fails to resonate with modern audiences, as we've seen so many times.
