Dallas Stars, Ottawa Senators, and Detroit Red Wings

Dallas Stars Want To Keep Jason Robertson, But All Options Are On The Table

Lia Assimakopoulos of the Dallas Morning News: After the 2026 NHL draft, Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill met with the media and acknowledged that there is an agreement to send Jason Robertson to the Seattle Kraken. However, it was not a fair deal for him. However, Nill told the media that the Stars are still trying to sign Robertson, despite the ongoing trade speculation. What matters is whether they can make it work.

Robertson's current deal expires on July 1, when he will receive a significant raise from his current $7.75 million salary. Reports indicate a difference of two million dollars regarding AAV. Robertson's camp is looking at $14 million, while the highest the Stars are willing to go is $12 million. Dallas is prepared for every situation come July 1, including Robertson and the direction the team is headed.

The Ottawa Senators did not make the Adjustment List

Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen: Garrioch writes that Senators GM Steve Staios didn't do well to organize the roster. After trading Brady Tkachuk, the Senators brought in William Eklund from the San Jose Sharks and Andre Burakovsky from the Chicago Blackhawks. He also signed Jordan Spence to a four-year, $20 million deal, with an AAV of $5 million. But the work is far from over.

Staios' goal is to continue to add depth to the team, whether that's through free agency or another trade or trade remains to be seen. But he wants to improve the system. However, he won't just bring in a player in free agency to claim he's done something.

Meanwhile, communication remains open between Claude Giroux and Nick Cousins. While Giroux will see what's on the open market, he would prefer to stay in Ottawa. Same goes for Cousins. It's not clear, as Garrioch writes, if anyone is open to taking the hometown discount.

NHL Rumors: Montreal Canadiens Have the Stuff to Be Aggressive

Steve Yzerman Confirms Trade Request As He Will Wait For His Price

Max Bultman of The Athletic: “Yzerman now confirms Larkin's trade request, with a short list of teams. But he added that Larkin had 5 years left on his contract, he says his job is to do what is in the best interest of the Red Wings and he will do it accordingly. He said he made no guarantees RE: meeting the request”

Pierre LeBrun: LarkinPat Brisson's agent. “The process is that we've had discussions over the last month or so. And we've agreed to work together on this. I understand that Steve and the organization have to do what's best for the Red Wings. We're trying to work as a 'team' together on this to achieve our individual goals so to speak.”

A quick note: Both sides work every day to facilitate trade. However, the belief and theory is that a third party will need to be involved, as the Red Wings GM doesn't just want the future. He wants roster players to keep Detroit competitive.
