Liverpool are close to agreeing personal terms for the £112m star signing

In 2023, Liverpool signed Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig for £60m.

Then two years later, the Reds completed the signing of Hugo Ekitike, the exciting young striker from Eintracht Frankfurt, in a deal worth an initial £69m. That summer, Liverpool completed a record-breaking move for Alexander Isak as well.

Now, Andoni Iraola has led a bid for Osasuna's Victor Munoz, and the thread that ties it all together is that they have all been stolen (or taken) from Newcastle United.

Liverpool, of course, have no vendetta against the Magpies, but Eddie Howe's side won't feel bad about that. They have already topped £35m for the Spanish midfielder, who has completed a medical and is set to sign for the Anfield club.

That's your food chain, but FSG's mission statement won't stop there. More is on the way.

Liverpool are hoping to sign the superstar winger

If and when Liverpool seal the deal for Munoz, 22, it will not spell the end of sporting director Richard Hughes' desire to move forward. Mohamed Salah is retiring this summer, and Hugo Ekitike will be lucky to grace the lawn before the end of the calendar year.

This time, Munoz fits the bill, with the power of running and acceleration that will open up a new dimension down the left without blocking the way in front of Rio Ngumoha.

Liverpool appear to have closed the door on Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola, who also prefers the left. Signing the French star would be a bit of a gamble, given that he would ignore Ngumoha.

But the Reds are still looking for an elite winger, and appear to be prioritizing the right-back.

Indeed, according to Sky Sports Germany's Philipp Heinze, after seeing an initial bid of £87m rejected for Yan Diomande on Thursday, they will come back with a 'better' offer.

Yan Diomande of the Ivory Coast

Liverpool are already aware of the personal terms it would take to convince Diomande to join. They don't expect problems on the part of the players, as long as they can agree on an agreement between the clubs. Previous reports have suggested that it would take around £112m to convince RB Leipzig to sell.

PSG are also interested but are yet to submit their own bid for the player.

Why Diomande would be a more exciting signing than Munoz

Diomande and Munoz are two of the best emerging players in the world, but the youngster from Leipzig may just take the cake, having been described as “the talent of the generation” by journalist Bence Bocsak.

In all competitions this season, he has scored 13 goals and provided ten others for the Bundesliga club, and is now proud to be one of the most sought-after stars in football.

Munoz is good, explosive and powerful in the danger zone, but Diomande is cut from a finer cloth. Regardless of the Spaniard's ability, Diomande has a truly world-class power, more clinical and more intelligent, an uncompromising driver with a first-class combative side.

There's a reason Liverpool rejected Newcastle's bid for Munoz, strengthening without blocking Ngumoha, but with Salah leaving Liverpool and looking for a new challenge, the need for a first-class right-back is huge.

Whether Liverpool can beat PSG is another question, but the FSG boss can see it answered in a sharp way, as Iraola plans to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Do you want to excel after this year's misery? Sure, but Liverpool have punched below their weight this year, and Diomande could prove the difference in lifting Anfield back into the limelight.

He is sharp in front of goal and brings enough energy to charge the new coach's system. There is every reason to believe that Liverpool could be the winner here, having found someone better than Munoz.

Yan Diomande-1 for RB Leipzig

You'd hope he would, to be fair. Diomande will cost a pretty penny this summer, more than double the price paid for Munoz. But you will deserve it. Liverpool have a plan, and it might just take them back to the summit.
