Kelechi Iheanacho is in touch with a new club after confirming his decision to leave Celtic

Celtic are now facing the prospect of losing one of their star players a few weeks after he told the media that he wanted to stay this summer.

It would be a frustrating blow for Martin O'Neill, who has the chance to accelerate past Hearts and Rangers and is following a managerial game in Scotland.

While Rangers are getting used to life under Derek McInnes, and hearts are feeling the sting of losing their captain and manager to the Gers, Celtic should be in a strong position to retain their title next season.

Celtic may have an opportunity to replace Arne Engels.

Alas, the Bhoys still have a lot of work to do in the end. After a disappointing year in terms of recruitment, the Parkhead chiefs must adjust their finances this summer and have set their sights on a number of names as a result.

Alvaro Rodriguez is one of those names. The Elche striker scored 12 goals in all competitions last season and is now in the headlines for Celtic, as they look to reignite their attacking spark.

His arrival would solve their striker problem, but it would also raise questions about the future of one of their attacking stars, despite his previous bid.

It's not just swinging into Scotland this summer. Bhoys may also face troubling travel.

According to Brazilian outlet Atenção Vascaínos, as reported by Sports Witness, Kelechi Iheanacho committed himself to Vasco Da Gama, only for the South American club to refuse the opportunity to secure his signature.

This comes just weeks after the striker told reporters he would like to stay in the Scotland squad, revealing his love for the fans.

“I love the fans, I love them all. Everyone in the streets of Glasgow, people see me. I'm happy. Glasgow is a great city. I hope I'll be here next season. I'm very happy to wear the Celtic shirt and play with all my heart.”

However, as things stand, Celtic will still have a one-year option on the player's contract and he will be an official at the end of June.

Rumors that Iheanacho is offering himself to other clubs suggest that contract negotiations will continue even if they fail to move in the right direction. Whether things are resolved before the current contract with the striker expires is now a big question.
