Chick-fil-A is opening Florida's only ghost kitchen in Miami

The ultimate test of fast-food physics comes to Miami.

Chick-fil-A is expanding its footprint in the Sunshine State with a new “ghost kitchen” only in Miami's Wynwood neighborhood, marking a significant step beyond the confines of traditional brick-and-mortar restaurants.

Operating within the CloudKitchens network, this location is the first private fast food delivery kitchen in Florida and the sixth nationwide, allowing the company to increase kitchen capacity and meet demand without the high costs of a traditional dining room.

The restaurant is located at 1900 NE Miami Court, and will fill orders primarily through third-party delivery platforms, according to a Chick-fil-A press release. It's open Monday through Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to midnight – two hours after Chick-fil-A's regular dining or drive-thru hours.

The new Wynwood location is expected to create approximately 30 local jobs, providing hands-on training, mentoring and competitive advantages.

“We know how important delivery is to Wynwood, and we want to meet the community where it is while maintaining our appreciation,” company owner Thomas Overby said in a release.

“Born and raised in Miami, serving this community is very important to me. Our new delivery kitchen location gives us the opportunity to serve the Wynwood community in a way that works best for them and gives me the privilege to deepen my connection with my hometown,” he continued.

While traditional restaurants face issues including seating, kitchen square footage and limited hours, a delivery-only kitchen allows the brand to serve large customers and operate fully without paying for prime real estate or dining room maintenance.

Partnering with established kitchen infrastructure networks like CloudKitchens allows the company to quickly deploy its delivery framework in densely populated urban areas like Miami.

Unlike its publicly traded competitors, Chick-fil-A is a private company with no public shareholders and ranks as America's third largest quick service restaurant. The slow rollout of its “ghost kitchen” model reflects the small-scale moves Chick-fil-A has made in recent years, such as opening five stores in its first expansion in England and just one in Singapore — a city of more than 6 million people.

Five other Chick-fil-A delivery locations operate in College Park, Maryland; Nashville, Tennessee; Louisville, Kentucky; Boston, Massachusetts; and Northern California.
