Man Utd in talks to sign £85m star “last 48 hours”
Manchester United Football Club and the transfer window often go hand-in-hand, as seen by the Red Devils' recent attempts in the market over the past few years.
Ruben Amorim, Erik ten Hag and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have all spent a pretty penny during their time as managers at Old Trafford.
However, there is no doubt that Michael Carrick will be the next manager to be handed the big bucks by INEOS to try and carve out a Premier League side in 2026/27.
Ederson has already agreed to a move to the Theater of Dreams this summer, after the Red Devils matched Atalanta's £45m asking price for the Brazilian midfielder.
Other targets are still being pursued by officials, as deals are expected to be completed before the window closes in September.
Man Utd enter talks to sign £85m star “last 48 hours”
As part of United's ongoing recruitment drive, all senior positions are being considered and could be confirmed ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Barcelona star Marc Casado has emerged as one of their targets in recent days, and the 22-year-old is expected to leave the LaLiga giants this window.
It has been reported that there have been talks between the Red Devils and the player's representatives – but Monaco are currently leading the race for him.
He is not the only midfielder who could join Ederson in a move to Manchester this window, as West Ham United star Mateus Fernandes is once again being targeted.
Fabrizio Romano spoke about the possible move on his YouTube channel, saying: “Man Utd are in direct talks with Mateus Fernandes' agents.
“Man Utd contacted the player's agents in the last 48 hours, and Man Utd started negotiations regarding the cost of the deal, transfer fee and salary.”
The Hammers are said to have cleared a move for the Portugal international, but want at least £85m to offload the 21-year-old.
Why Bruno would like Mateus Fernandes at Man Utd
United's qualification for the Champions League this term is a huge achievement for Carrick – but he owes much of the success to Bruno Fernandes amid his incredible form in the Premier League.
The Portuguese-born player was the Red Devils' main orchestrator at the heart of the team, racking up 21 assists in England's top flight.
His aforementioned stats are the highest of any player in Premier League history, highlighting the incredible impact he had on United's third-placed finish this season.

Rumors will no doubt be flying about his future at Old Trafford, but Carrick and the officials will no doubt be determined to keep the 31-year-old this window.
A move for his compatriot this summer can only increase Bruno's chances of staying put, with the two having the chance to build a great relationship at club and world level.
The West Ham star will also allow the attacking midfielder to thrive in an attacking role, while the 21-year-old sits in a deeper role and acts as a ball winner for the Red Devils.
His stats in the most recent Premier League campaign show his excellent ability to disrupt the game – after which he produced impressive numbers despite being relegated.
Fernandes, dubbed “amazing” by Eduardo Hagn, has made an incredible 3.1 per 90 this season – ranking him in the top 12% of all players in England's top flight.
His average of 5.9 ground duels won and 5.4 possessions per 90 balls this season also places him in the top 25% of midfielders in Europe – confirming his incredible ability to win balls.
However, the Hammers star has also been able to drive the game forward from deep, as evidenced by his 58% dribble success and 88% pass rate.
Both of the aforementioned figures have seen Bruno benefit greatly, with the attacking midfielder able to receive more of the ball and create more kills in forward areas.
The reported £85m fee for Fernandes' signing is undoubtedly a huge sum and could be reduced in the coming months as the window continues.
However, there's no denying that Carrick's men will be acquiring an incredible talent who could take his development to the next level at Old Trafford.
The partnership between the two Fernandes is certainly something to be excited about and could take the club to the next level in 2026/27 and beyond.
