Man Utd are eyeing Marc Cucurella after the Spanish star dropped a transfer request from Chelsea
Manchester United are now looking to make a move for the “unbelievable” player, who has told Chelsea he wants to leave this summer.
Man Utd are looking to build on a successful transfer window in the summer of 2025
Although Man United endured a difficult last season under Ruben Amorim, a strong second half of the campaign with Michael Carrick saw them finish third in the Premier League, meaning they are on course to return to the Champions League.
As such, the Red Devils' 2025 summer transfer window should be considered a success, and chief executive Omar Berrada has revealed plans to adopt a similar strategy this time around.
Berrada says: “The pattern of what we did last summer will be repeated. You never know how it will go out of the window. You have to be really prepared, have a clear plan, know which positions you want to strengthen and be prepared for whatever happens.
“There may be exits that you didn't expect or opportunities that weren't there at the beginning of the window. We have to be quick and flexible. We have a clear plan. [Director of football] Jason Wilcox and his team are well positioned to execute that plan. “
The Red Devils were quick to sign Ederson, with the Atalanta midfielder now expected to complete a move to Old Trafford, but are still keen to bring in some defensive reinforcements.
Man Utd plan to raid Chelsea for “unbelievable” player.
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness), Man United are now in the race to sign Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella, with the Blues ready to make a move of around €40m – €50m (£35m – £43m) this summer.
Cucurella has told his current employers that he wants to leave, after his team missed out on European competition last season, and is keen on a move to FC Barcelona.
Manchester City, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are also in the race to sign the defender, who has been hailed as an “unbelievable player” by journalist Will Reyner.
Despite playing more on the left during the 2025-26 campaign, the 27-year-old managed to chip in with one goal and four assists in 34 Premier League games, and created 39 chances, more than United's biggest team total.

Former manager Enzo Maresca also praised the Spaniard for his defensive qualities, saying: “He is doing very well,” Maresca said of Cucurella. “He scores goals, but he doesn't just score goals. He helps the team play the way we want to play. When we need to defend, he is very aggressive off the ball.”
Gary Neville has urged Man United to sign a left-back this summer, ahead of a return to the Champions League, and Cucurella could be an excellent player.
