Trump tells Financial Times he's “calling the shots,” not Netanyahu, as Israel and Iran trade fire

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “will have no choice” but to accept the agreement between the US and Iran, said President Trump in an interview published on Sunday, because “I call the shots.”

In a telephone interview with the Financial Times, Mr. Trump said the Israeli leader “will not choose.”

“I call the shots. I call all the shots. He [Netanyahu] it doesn't hit the gun,” emphasized Mr.

He spoke to this newspaper after Iran fired missiles at Israel in retaliation for Israeli strikes on the Lebanese capital Beirut, Mr. Trump told Fox News he was “not happy” about it.

Mr. Trump asked Netanyahu on Sunday not to retaliate against Iran for the missile launch, according to Axios, to provide an opportunity for dialogue. Mr. Trump “was of the opinion that we are close to a deal with Iran,” a US official told Axios.

Israel finally hit Iran after Iran launched missiles on Sunday, but Iran's military said on Monday it had halted the strike, saying it had sent the intended message, as Mr.

Iran announces a halt to military operations

Iran's military on Monday announced it would suspend all military operations after trade strikes with Israel.

Iran shot down drones in Israel on Sunday after Israel bombed areas south of Beirut in defiance of Washington's proposal. Israel responded with strikes and tit-for-tat attacks continued into Monday.

But Iran's military commander, Khatam Al-Anbia, announced on Monday that “military operations will be suspended.”

In a statement, it said that Iran “gave a painful response” to the “atrocities of the brutal Zionist regime in southern Lebanon” and the Lebanese capital Beirut, and that Israel “and its allies must learn a lesson” from these strikes.

“Accordingly,” the statement continued, “therefore a ceasefire is declared.”

It added that “in the event of continued violence and provocation, including in southern Lebanon, the strongest and most repressive actions will follow.”

President Trump called on Israel and Iran to “cease 'shooting'” earlier Monday and said both sides wanted an immediate “CEASEFIRE” after the weekend flare-up.

Israeli authorities say two waves of Iranian missiles have targeted the country and are urging the public to seek shelter. Explosions could be heard in central Israel as Israeli air defenses scrambled to intercept incoming Iranian fire.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard said it targeted two military bases in Israel, describing the attack as part of Operation Nasr, or “Victory.” The Guard said they launched the missiles after Israel targeted radars at three Iranian sites.

Israel and Iran both claim that Israel struck an Iranian petrochemical plant.

Israel launched strikes on central and western Iran early Monday in response to missile fire from Tehran, in the worst attack since President Trump announced a ceasefire on April 8.

Tehran threatened to retaliate on Sunday after Israel raided areas south of Beirut without warning in defiance of Washington's request days ago not to hit the Lebanese capital.

Monday was the 101st day of the Iran war. It was launched jointly by the US and Israel on February 28 with strikes that killed former Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other top leaders.

The Israeli army says it has attacked military weapons in Iran

The Israeli military says it carried out strikes on military targets in western and central Iran early Monday local time, according to a statement posted on X.

The strikes came after Iran launched missiles at Israel on Sunday and after President Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to urge him not to immediately retaliate against Iran's missile attack, according to a senior US official.

The official, who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity to explain the secret call, said Mr.

Iran had warned that Israel's attack on Beirut would spark a full-scale war in the Mideast, as Pakistan and other mediators tried to restart talks between Tehran and Washington.

“US forces throughout the Middle East remain alert and ready,” US Central Command tweeted shortly before the missile launch. The US Embassy in Israel later ordered staff and family members to evacuate the area.

Iran threatens US and Israeli interests after Beirut strike

Iran's top negotiator warned on Sunday that an Israeli strike south of Beirut and the ongoing US blockade of Iranian ports would trigger retaliation.

In a social media post, parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused Washington of giving Israel a “green light” for strikes that hit two areas in the Lebanese capital.

This and the blockade, he said, “turn America's foundations and assets upside down [Israeli] the state in the region for legitimate purposes. Our armed forces, as always, are free to act.”
