Jamie Dimon says he told NYC Mayor Mamdani 'everything I want to say'

JPMorgan Chase CEO and Chairman Jamie Dimon gives details about his one-on-one meeting with New York City's Democratic Socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

“I had a great meeting with Mamdani, which was nice, you know, but I said everything I wanted to say,” Dimon told FOX Business' Maria Bartiromo at the second annual Reagan National Economic Forum. “I have seen mayors grow up and enter the workforce.”

“I mean, he's in charge of a city with 300,000 employees now, he's never had a job like that. And I've seen mayors who have appeared, fail miserably because they can't control themselves without a paper bag, or ideology blinds the real, practical, real-world policy. And so we'll see. And, I know I can help, I can do that good, “I help them do that, “I help them do that good.

Last Monday, Dimon and Mamdani met in person at the bank's new headquarters in Manhattan, as Mamdani strengthens ties with Wall Street leaders following backlash over proposals to raise taxes on wealthy New Yorkers.

The meeting was “constructive and the tone was friendly,” a JPMorgan spokesman told Reuters. According to City Hall, they discussed reducing government waste, cutting roads linked to development programs and expanding public-private partnerships. JPMorgan said the discussion also focused on New York City's competitiveness.

“Good policy is free. I like to tell politicians, don't try to raise taxes or spend more money, sit down and fix policy,” Dimon said Friday. “And I think you can go 1% faster. I believe that.”

Bartiromo confronted Dimon directly about Mamdani's ongoing campaign tactics, specifically a video taped by the mayor targeting billionaire Ken Griffin.

“Yeah, but, Jamie, give me a break,” Bartiromo said. “He made a video in front of Ken Griffin's house. I mean, you know, that's a security issue.”

“I agree,” Dimon replied. “I think he probably regrets that, but you should ask him that.”

Dimon also explained that he passed Mamdani on what he described as the reality of running a big city, warning that governance is not about moral slogans but about economic competition for talent and safety.

“Competition, you know, there is tax and there is individual tax, corporate tax, residence tax, there are other hidden taxes. Then there is the quality of life, which has nothing to do with ideas. It is like crime, police, sanitation, hospitals,” said the CEO. “And I want him to succeed.”

“My impression was, he was very polite. It was very sincere. We had a very good conversation, but I said everything I wanted to say,” Dimon continued. “I got to talk about affordable housing and child care. A lot of people want it. If you do it wrong, it can be a disaster… Do it right. There are lessons that can tell you how to do it right. Find people who know what they're doing and implement the right policies.”
