Man Utd hold talks to sign £87m defender

Manchester United finished in third place in the Premier League, an achievement that almost begs the imagination given how far they have fallen under Ruben Amorim.
Michael Carrick has found his place in the dugout. This is a good time. In this case INEOS sees him as the man to lead this project for many years, not months.
Change is coming. Casemiro has said goodbye, and the Red Devils are already on the market looking for his replacement. Atalanta's Ederson is the frontrunner there, negotiations are still ongoing and the various parties are hoping for a deal.
However, United need more additions this summer. They need signings in attack, and Fabrizio Romano has spoken about their plans.
Man Utd are in talks to sign the £87m winger
Bruno Fernandes is the Premier League Player of the Year, and he totally deserves it. However, his attitude is top notch, and the captain would like to see the big prizes returned to the Theater of Dreams.
United have been successful this season, but will need to strengthen this summer if the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City are shut out.
And according to Romano, INEOS have held talks to sign RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, with the 19-year-old the talk of the town after an exceptional season in Germany.

Man Utd's most expensive signing ever
Most of their additions have not lived up to expectations.
The transfer expert took to his YouTube show and said: “It's not just Liverpool, because Paris Saint-Germain, I told you all this in January, but also Paris Saint-Germain are in talks.
“Manchester United are after the player, but Man United have already informed people close to the player that they will not pay €100m for Diomande because the big money will be invested in the midfield.”
Diomande is priced at £87m, and that is no doubt a steep price for a young winger with limited experience to make it to the top flight.
But this is one of the most wanted players in the world, and with Liverpool already making him their top target, INEOS will want to do everything possible to secure his signature.
After all, this could be the new Marcus Rashford for the Premier League giants.
Why Diomande could be Man United's new Rashford
Rashford ebbed and flowed throughout his time at Manchester United, in many ways, a symptom of the deep problems that have plagued the club over the past 13 years.

At his best, he was incredible, precise and always dangerous in the final third. Diomande could be the new version the Red Devils are looking for, having already been hailed as a “generational talent” by journalist Bence Bocsak for his efforts in Germany.
This young player, who strikes with the left foot and is very effective when bending to the right, scored 12 goals and assisted eight more throughout the 2025/26 season, but his basic data speaks of his world-class skills, creating 17 great chances and an average of 3.6 duels and 5.6 duels per game.
There is a reason many powerful clubs are looking for the Ivory Coast international, whose stock is likely to rise significantly after the 2026 World Cup in North America. His flowing, quick running style and desire to take on opponents has seen him rise to the top of the German game, with Bayern Munich's interest in his quality a testament to that.
Diomande has similar qualities to Rashford, with the England international equally explosive and unpredictable during his younger playing days.
He may choose another side, but this is a midfielder with the quality to transform an already flourishing Man United attack, adding more energy and youthful enthusiasm to go along with challenging the likes of Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo.
Marcus Rashford. La Liga champion. United's recruits are happy for him, and there's no mistaking it, but there is room in Carrick's squad for a striker of his caliber.
Now, however, they can say goodbye to the past and bring forward a new Rashford-esque, someone who can lead a new era for years to come.
