“My understanding” – Fabrizio Romano reveals Liverpool manager's update contrary to reports

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher admits that coach Arne Slot will not be able to win when it comes to the way he handles Mohamed Salah this weekend as he does not have enough power to banish the Egyptian player.
Salah's social media post on Saturday, which relied heavily on words associated with former manager Jurgen Klopp, was an undisguised criticism of Slot.
He will play his last game for the club at home to Brentford on Sunday in a Premier League game that could decide their future in the Champions League next season, while Bournemouth remain in the hunt after a draw with Manchester City.
Carragher admits that the result of that game is more important than anything but Slot will not risk attacking the fans, who are firmly behind the Egyptian who have been frustrated by the Dutchman's tactics and the team's poor performance.
“I don't think a manager should cut his nose in spite of his face, he should always do what will give the team the best chance of getting a result – if they need a result,” Carragher told The Overlap's Stick to Football podcast.
“If he doesn't need a result and Liverpool are already qualified then that might be a different thing but the position Arne Slot is in at the moment with the fans, it's very difficult not to give Mo Salah some kind of big release.
“You can't be successful somehow, if you had more energy.
“But if it was me and I was Arne Slot, I think I would play it smart if I could get the result (from Bournemouth) and be in the Champions League.”

Liverpool are now battling PSG to sign Salah's replacement after a personal assessment
Happy summer to the Reds…
In his social media post – which was liked by a number of his teammates – Salah said he wanted to see Liverpool return to being a “heavy metal attacking team” – a direct reference to Klopp.
“This is an identity that needs to be restored and preserved forever. It is non-negotiable and everyone who joins this club must get used to it,” he wrote.
The slot will hold a meeting with the owners of Liverpool – Romano
Speaking on his personal YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano denied reports that Liverpool owners FSG have canceled plans to meet Slot in the coming days.
“Arne Slot has full confidence that it will continue, but we have to wait until the end of the season review.
“There are reports that there won't be an end of season review – no. My understanding is that there will be an end of season review, and then we'll see how it goes.”
Liverpool fans were once again frustrated this week as it was announced that former Reds player Xabi Alonso will take over from Chelsea.
Alonso was a popular choice among the Anfield faithful as he won the treble with Bayer Leverkusen and spent much of his playing career on Merseyside, lifting the Champions League in 2005.
The coach of Germany, Julian Nagelsmann, has also been pointed towards Liverpool.
