Crystal Palace have given Sean Dyche an update as Oliver Glasner's search for a replacement continues

Crystal Palace have been given an update in their managerial search as the Eagles announced a replacement for former Everton boss Oliver Glasner.

Palace are preparing for an important summer and Glasner's exit is confirmed

Palace have navigated this season with a mixture of European adventure and domestic frustration, and next summer could prove to be the most important in the club's history.

Glasner, who gave the Eagles their first major trophy in 120 years last May when Eberechi Eze's goal at Wembley beat Man City in the FA Cup final, also led them to an opening-day Community Shield win over Liverpool on penalties and a historic Conference League campaign that has already progressed to the quarter-finals.

The Austrian is, without doubt, the most successful manager Selhurst Park has ever seen.

He goes too.

Glasner confirmed in January that he had told chairman Steve Parish since October that he would not be renewing his contract, citing a desire to seek a new challenge.

Palace's “wonderful” player is attracting a lot of interest.

This announcement came with an unspoken tension about the direction of the club.

Eze was sold to Arsenal last summer, Marc Guehi was sold to Man City for just £20m in January – the day before a Premier League game – prompting Glasner's stunning public outburst in which he said he felt the club had “been completely abandoned.”

The relationship between the manager and the board has been going on for months, and by the end of the summer, one side of that dynamic will be gone.

The challenge is that some travel can be overwhelming.

Adam Wharton, the 22-year-old England international who has become one of the most sought-after midfielders in the division, is understood to be looking for Champions League football and is firmly on Man United's radar as they look to overhaul their midfield.

Jean-Philippe Mateta is also ready to leave this summer and is close to joining AC Milan in January.

The futures of Maxence Lacroix, Tyrick Mitchell and Ismaila Sarr are also unresolved, with interest reportedly swirling around all three.

Palace are also no closer to appointing a new manager.

Reports suggest they are putting together a shortlist, with Ferencvaros manager Robbie Keane among the candidates to replace Glasner at Palace.

Along with the former Spurs striker, Parish has his eyes on a pragmatic free agent.

Palace have announced Sean Dyche for the manager's job

Indeed, SportsBoom claims that Sean Dyche has been heard about the vacancy.

The 54-year-old, who has been there since being sacked by Nottingham Forest in February, has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs but played down Spurs talks after talking to someone in a pub about it, as he revealed to talkSPORT.

Some supporters will feel that Dyche's straightforward, pragmatic style represents a retreat from the fluid identity that Glasner has built.

However, the strategist Thomas Frank has called him a 'wonderful coach' also has his advantages.

Dyche built his managerial reputation during a decade at Burnley, winning promotion and finishing seventh in the Premier League in 2018 – leading to European success.

After leaving Turf Moor following a ten-year spell, he subsequently steadied Everton's sinking ship before taking a spell at Forest this season.

His strengths are well-documented – organisation, defensive tenacity, man-handling, and an unrivaled ability to squeeze value from modest resources.

The concern at Selhurst Park is style.

Palace have spent years building a squad with genuine attacking talent, and Dyche's direct, combative approach risks tearing that form apart.

At a club that just won the FA Cup last year, some will feel that he represents a desire to bounce back.
