Man Utd bosses are set to make an “official” approach to the “unusual” manager who is “open” to joining.
In the hunt for their next manager, Manchester United and INEOS are now ready to make an “official” move to recruit the impressive 4-2-3-1 manager.
Man Utd shortlisted three managers
Manchester United may have turned their season around under interim manager Michael Carrick, but INEOS still have many questions to answer this summer.
They must ensure that any improvement Carrick makes does not turn into a short-term relief. Long-term repairs should begin as soon as this summer arrives.

The Red Devils mean business…
Who that long-term fix will be remains to be seen, however. It certainly wasn't Ruben Amorim and it may not be Carrick, or the interim manager who is one of three names on the shortlist, according to reports.
Indeed, Carrick is in the process of finding a permanent job, but many at Old Trafford will be getting a glimpse of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if they go down that route this summer.
Another option is Mauricio Pochettino. The USA boss has the World Cup to deal with though, and it looks like Man United talks will be more difficult than first thought.
“There is a mechanism in Pochettino's contract, that he does not leave immediately. His contract will last for one month, giving a few weeks until August. So if you want Pochettino to start the Premier League season, United will still have to go to US Soccer and negotiate that exit.” – Ben Jacobs
The truth is that the Red Devils have been stuck in a Groundhog day of management since Sir Alex Ferguson left 10 years ago, and they need to get things right this summer.
It means that the departure of Julian Nagelsmann should be a priority. According to Ben Jacobs, speaking to United Stand, the German player is the third most likely to run at the moment.
Man Utd are set to make a formal approach to Julian Nagelsmann
A young manager ready to take the Premier League by storm, Nagelsmann is everything Man United hoped Amorim would be, and according to Jacobs, the “official” process for the candidates is imminent.
“Nagelsmann and Carrick are ahead of Pochettino at the moment. In April, there will be formal contact with other candidates.
“With Nagelsmann, he has a contract until 2028, and he is open for club work this summer. He was interested in managing in the Premier League.”
The 4-2-3-1 manager is currently in charge of Germany ahead of the 2026 World Cup and is under contract until 2028, but could decide on his future after the tournament – when Man United could reach a deal.
Dubbed “extraordinary” by former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, Nagelsmann is still only 38 years old, but has plenty of experience.
He took over from Bayern Munich and is about to manage his first World Cup. At a time when most of the Premier League has opted for a sensible approach, Nagelsmann will provide a much-needed shake-up to give Man United an immediate advantage.
