Ryan Gosling Unveils Children's Project Hail Mary Connection

Gosling continued, “Even with each person, which is the journey of this character, he doesn't believe in himself.

Project Hail Mary follows scientist-turned-teacher Dr. Ryland Grace (played by Gosling), who wakes up in space with no memory of how he got there. Through a series of flashbacks, it is revealed that Grace is on a mission to save Earth. During her journey, Grace befriends a stranger named Rocky.

When it came to bringing Grace to life on screen, Gosling was initially against the “rule” of having the scientist wear glasses. However, the accessory actually makes the character. Shout out to Gosling's daughter for the push she needed.

“I was playing this character and I threw the glasses,” Gosling recalled. “My daughter was like, 'You look so smart in glasses.' I thought I would be dressed. Thank you.”

Fans of the book are fiercely protective – as are most readers – of Gosling's knowledge. Early reviews of the film reveal that this adaptation was well received. (Us Weekly (You can write this message after seeing the Amazon Books preview of the film on Tuesday, March 17.)

“The writer Andy Weir is a special writer, a special voice right now. He writes science fiction but we've been inundated with these dystopian future stories that we've been in for the last decade. It feels like those negative consequences are inevitable,” Gosling said on Wednesday. “What Andy is doing, which I find very special, is that he is giving us an opportunity to step away from that narrative and see the future as something that is not something to be afraid of.”
