Bryson DeChambeau bogeys on 18 to miss the Masters cut

Bryson DeChambeau was hoping that this Sunday at the Masters, he would put his arms around the green jacket. Instead, DeChambeau will be watching the third and fourth rounds of the 2026 Masters from home.
The two-time major champion battled a rough opening round with a solid performance Friday at Augusta National. He didn't even agree.
All of DeChambeau's hard work was undone by a shocking meltdown below the greenside that resulted in a devastating triple bogey and easily made Bryson the most surprising player to miss the cut at the Masters.
DeChambeau rallies from nightmare start to Friday's Masters (early)
What made DeCHambeau's 18th hole surprising was what happened over the previous 17 holes.
He started Friday's round on the main hole. DeChambeau, who was among the pre-tournament betting favorites, shot a 4-over 76 in Thursday's opening round. A frustrated DeChambeau was with reporters after the embarrassment.
His final takedown on Thursday will be an indication of things to come. On Augusta's difficult 11th hole in Round 1, DeChambeau twice missed a putt, which he later described as softer sand than he expected.
On Friday, it quickly became clear that the cut line would end up settling at four or five over par. That meant Bryson had no room for error.

When he bogeyed the first hole out of the gates to get down to the top, he was faced with an uphill climb to make the cut.
At this point, one can imagine Bryson growing frustrated, causing him to fall further down the leaderboard. But that's not the case.
Instead, DeChambeau grinded through his entire round, making three birdies to close out his first nine under par of the day. In the turn, he was back on the right side of the cut line.
When a disappointing bogey came on the par-5 13th, DeChambeau buckled down and birdied the 15th to get back to three over.
He was still at that number, and safely within the cut line, when he reached the par-4 18th hole.
DeChambeau's 18th-hole bunker disaster leads to triple bogey, MC
At 18, DeChambeau only needed a bogey-5 to secure his tee times for Masters weekend.
He first made his way to the right trees. But when he found the left greenside bunker at 2 from the pine straw, it seemed like a foregone conclusion: splash out, two putt, shake hands and hit the range to begin preparing for a historic comeback.

It seemed like it would be that easy. Until it wasn't.
Responding to his 11th-hole nightmare on Thursday, DeChambeau swiped his ball with his sinker, but it failed to escape the top lip of the bunker, rolling back down the face to remain in his sandy prison.
It doesn't matter. He was still able to get up and down to cut. And his second attempt was even better than the first. It even looked like it might work. Until it was.
Bryson's ball bounced onto the green a bit, but it's too low to survive the 18th tee. So he could watch in horror as it turned tail before reaching the hole and rolled off the front of the green completely.
A fan was heard on Masters.com's video of the incident saying, “He was defaming himself there.”

Now DeChambeau needed a miraculous chip-in to make the Masters cut, but he sent his effort past the hole. He missed that one before eventually clearing the backer with a devastating triple-bogey 7.
He was only content to know that his score went from two under to over the closing hole. His Friday 74 left him at six over for the tournament, missing two shots.
But there was not going to be another press conference on Friday night. DeChambeau quickly packed up and left the property before any questions could be asked.
