Boy Choked After Mother Left Autistic Sons Alone

An Alabama woman has been arrested after authorities say she neglected her two 12-year-old sons with autism, one of whom accidentally suffocated himself with a blanket and died while the boys were home alone.
Amanda Morgan was arrested on Tuesday, March 17, following an investigation into the death of his 14-year-old son, according to WALA.
On October 8, 2025, officers from the Mobile Police Department responded to Morgan's home and found her 14-year-old son dead. When the police looked at the house, they said they saw signs of neglect.
Morgan, 39, was charged five months later with murdering her son and child abuse.
The mother appeared in court on Wednesday, March 18, during the bond hearing, where there were also witnesses who would testify about the state of her home when her son was found dead.
WKRG reported that there was evidence that Morgan had left her 14-year-old and 16-year-old alone the night before the youngest son died. Another witness testified that Morgan would leave the youth home alone “for a long time.”
An autopsy report states that a 14-year-old boy was found with a blanket wrapped around his neck, and the cause of death was listed as “accidental strangulation.”
Another revealed that Morgan's house was always in bad shape. Apart from not having air conditioning and water, this home is said to be full of insects and human excrement.
At the time of her 14-year-old son's death, Morgan's 16-year-old child was hospitalized for malnutrition, according to WKRG. It is not yet clear where he lives following Morgan's arrest.
During the bond hearing, Morgan was ordered to have no contact with her surviving child.
Morgan's bond was set at $40,000 for aggravated assault and $400,000 for murder.
He is currently being held at the Mobile County Metro Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, March 24.
It is not yet clear whether Morgan has filed his plea or retained legal representation. The Mobile Police Department did not immediately respond Us Weeklyrequest for comment on the case.
The district attorney's office said investigators want to wait until an autopsy and toxicology report are completed before filing charges against Morgan, according to WKRG. When the reports were completed, the district attorney's office said there was enough evidence to charge Morgan with both charges.
