Nigel Farage, the UK's far-right leader and former Trump ally, has resigned over a financial scandal involving high-risk gambling.

London – British politician Nigel Farage, a former ally of President Trump who has led the far-right, populist party in the UK, resigned on Tuesday to start a special election. It is a high-stakes political game to renew his authority with the electorate as he faces mounting pressure on the financial issue.
Farage is accused of breaking British parliamentary law by failing to disclose financial gifts – including to a 32-year-old convicted felon he calls “Daddy,” according to the Sunday Times.
The leader of the Reform UK Party has said he will run in a by-election for his vacant seat, which is likely to take place in the early autumn.

“I have decided that the people of Clacton must be the judge of my actions,” Farage said in a televised speech on Tuesday, referring to the southeast England constituency he has represented in parliament for two years.
“This is going to be a people versus a by-election,” he said, calling it “an opportunity to stick two fingers across the establishment to tell them bluntly where to go.”
His resignation means that two parliamentary investigations into the donations of two rich men will be suspended.
Farage reiterated his stance on Tuesday saying “he has done nothing wrong.”

BBC New's chief political correspondent Henry Zeffman called the move an attempt to “appeal to a higher political authority than Parliament's standards committee,” the body which has been investigating Farage's financial disclosures as an MP.
The outgoing British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, called it “dishonest,” and said Farage made the decision because he was “on his neck.”
Farage's Reform UK party, which supports mass deportations and the scrapping of national climate policies, has been leading opinion polls for at least a year.
Team up – and it success in the recent local elections especially – it was part of the reason the ruling Labor Party forced Starmer to applying for his resignation last month.
A star he is likely to be replaced by his Labor colleague Andy Burnham within a few weeks, he took control of both the party and the prime minister's office.
Farage, if he wins his seat again, could be Burnham's main challenger in the next general election. However, if he is not re-elected to parliament, he will not be able to become prime minister.
Farage is a divisive figure in UK politics. He is considered the architect of Britain's “Brexit” from the European Union, which recent polls show that the majority of voters now believe was a mistake, and he has faced many accusations of historic racism.
In the past, he has appeared willing to show himself as a close friend of President Trump, especially before the 2016 US election when Mr. In 2024, he promised to act as a “bridge” between Mr. Trump and Britain's newly elected Labor Party.
“I might be helpful as a spokesperson, unofficially, behind the scenes, to try to help sort out some of those calls,” he said at the time.
However, in March, after Farage visited Mr. Trump Mar-a-Lago in Florida but not only met the president, sources close to the British politician told the Financial Times that the relationship between the two men has cooled.
Farage had said before the trip that he would “eat at Mar-a-Lago.”
The representative said that after the trip he never planned to meet Mr. Trump in Florida.
