Very few movies can gross over a billion dollars, say #1 at the box office for weeks, and still be considered a disappointment. James Cameron's Avatar franchise is hugely successful, with only two movies, that is Image: Fire and Ashes it was considered a step back with only $1.5 billion worldwide. Now available on Disney+ and released to box viewers, Image: Fire and Ashes is about to find a new audience, without the requisite 3D IMAX theater.
The Fire Nation is under attack

Image: Fire and Ashes what to do with 3D fire effects The Way of Water you're doing it for water, and while there's no denying that it looks great, a lot of impact is lost when it comes to home viewing. This is where another part of the franchise comes in. The first Avatar is mocked for being Ferngully or Dances with wolvesbut the last two, which focus more on Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri's (Zoe Saldana) family, are more like old-school 80s sci-fi.
The Na'vi on Pandora were peaceful until the Fire Nation attacked. Wait, that's wrong A photono wait, that's actually the right Avatar except this time the leader is Varang (Oona Chaplain), who gives us our first evil Na'vi. He's “tough” and willing to outdo his people, but when fate meets the people and he accepts a gift of guns from Quaritch (Stephen Lang), it's bad, it makes no sense.
Varang is an excellent host Fire and ashes with Oona Chaplain's performance lighting up the screen every time she's in the scene. The rest of the film focuses on Spider (Jake Champion), Quaritch's adopted son by Jake Sully, and his growing relationship with Kiri (Sigourney Weaver). Kiri is experiencing growth and changes due to his inability to communicate with Eywa, Pandora's version of Gaia. Being cut off by the God your whole species worships does a number on the youth's self-esteem.
Oh, and it all ends with a massive CGI battle that looked amazing on the big screen, and still looks great streaming on Disney+.
What's next for Avatar?

Image: Fire and Ashes it's not as big as the second film, and it doesn't have the sense of wonder from the first, but this is James Cameron's series that comes across as a true sci-fi franchise. With three films, it's no longer just a curiosity or a joke about its lack of cultural impact, it's a good sci-fi that has its roots in the family-friendly adventure of the 80s Spielberg and Disney. The critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, only 60 percent, makes it the worst in the franchise but the audience's score, 90 percent, is the most important. With Avatar, now, you know what you're getting.
A fourth and fifth film are currently planned, and, allegedly, the fifth takes the battle of Pandora all the way back to Earth. Picture 4 currently scheduled for December 2029 season Picture 5 it is scheduled for 2031, which sounds like a made up number not five years. You have plenty of time to find three hours to set aside Image: Fire and Ashes between now and 2029. If nothing else, it's worth a watch to experience the Varang for yourself.
