A fan gets England's World Cup players to sign copies of the Declaration of Independence in a hilarious video

The World Cup has been presented on the field, but let's face it: just as much good has been happening off the field, and we have one of the funniest highlights of the tournament so far coming to us from Kansas City, Mo.

It's where the England National Team's training grounds are located, and as the team prepared for their first tournament match against Croatia in Arlington, Texas, a fan thought it would be funny to get as many players as possible to sign copies of the Declaration of Independence.

And he was right!

The document that declared the United States free from the slavery of the British Empire (and may or may not have a map to the vast wealth passed down from generation to generation) is the perfect historical document to peruse as we approach America's 250th birthday.

Andrew Forester posted a humorous goof on X, and it quickly picked up a lot of steam.

How great this was, and congratulations to the players for being sportsmen.

Forester has made it his mission to get England star Harry Kane – a “big tuna” as he puts it – to sign, along with a host of others.

This video is interesting to me.

First of all, it made me realize how often actors and celebrities go into “signing mode” and have no idea what they are signing.

That said, are there any of us who would recognize the historical documents of another country if they were shoved in our noses?

If I was in the UK and someone shoved a copy of the Magna Carta under my nose and asked me to sign it, I wouldn't see it. Maybe I'll read it as much as I give Apple's terms and conditions, which means I won't read it all, and put a big loud and proud American signature on it.

Also, displaying the printed copies in the folder helped this a lot. There is something about folders. If someone asks you to sign a bunch of loose papers, you might think something is wrong. But, if those same papers are neatly tucked away in a $1.50 Amazon Essentials folder, you'd think they should be signed.

I mean, they fit in folders, right? Better signature.

Great things from all parties, and on behalf of us Americans – who defeated the British in the Revolutionary War, and again in the War of 1812; people forget that – good luck as they start their World Cup programme.
