Wilcox is making it his goal to sign the £60m star from Man Utd

After finishing third in the Premier League under Michael Carrick this term, many Manchester United fans will be hoping it's the start of a successful managerial spell.
The 44-year-old has lost just twice in 17 games in charge – a record that would have seen him win the title had he been in charge since the start of August.
However, the next campaign will be where Carrick will be judged the most, with the new manager having the pressure of becoming a full-time club manager to contend with.
Ederson's pending arrival is an example of the investment officials are willing to make this summer, but it shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
Other high-profile targets continue to be pursued by the board, with Technical Director Jason Wilcox spearheading efforts to land new talent at Old Trafford.
Man Utd are targeting a £60m move this summer
Ederson's arrival will see the first of many midfielders join United this summer, but other areas of the squad are also expected to be strengthened in the coming months.
Porto winger William Gomes has been identified as one attacking option, and talks have already been held with the player's representatives in the past few weeks.
The Brazilian is said to have fans of Premier League club Arsenal, which could lead to a transfer battle for the £52m star this summer.
However, the Department of Defense are said to be investing in this window, with Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall once again tipped to join Carrick's men.
According to TEAMtalk, talks have already been held to secure the Englishman's signature, but Eddie Howe's men are reluctant to release the youngster this window.
The report also says that Wilcox is the one driving the search for the 21-year-old player, as he tries to add much-needed depth to the backfield.
The Magpies have slapped a £60m price tag on Hall's head to prevent any interest, but it appears the Red Devils would be willing to match the asking price.
Why Hall could be Carrick's answer to Elliot Anderson at United
In a bid to strengthen United's squad this summer, Carrick has already been linked with a move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson.
The Red Devils have been keeping a close eye on the Englishman's progress in recent months, which could see them make a move soon.
However, Manchester City has also entered the race and now seems to be the favorite to sign the 23-year-old player in the next window.

Carrick's men are said to be dismayed at the midfielder's current £115m price tag, which could see them turn to other targets in the summer.
While Hall may not be a central midfielder, he could be United's version of Anderson if he makes the move to join Carrick's men in the coming months.
He will emulate his team-mate in leaving the Magpies to join another Premier League outfit and potentially take his career to the next level away from St James' Park.
His statistics from the recent campaign show his incredible ability at both ends of the pitch, which would make him the perfect long-term solution to United's problems at left-back.
Hall, called “world class” by journalist Jordan Cronin, completed 85% of the passes he attempted, while creating an impressive 1.3 chances per 90.
Both of the aforementioned scores put him in the top 20% of all European defenders and highlight his incredible ability to create carnage in the attacking third.
However, off the ball, the youngster was equally impressive throughout 2025/26, after which he won 6.5 ground duels and made 2.3 tackles per 90.
Other tallies, such as 5.3 possessions and 7.2 defensive tackles per 90, also reflect his overall quality, with a defender showing talent beyond his tender years.
At £60m, it would be another huge deal for United, but a move that could secure the club in the top flight for many years to come – not to mention a troubled situation.
Missing out on Anderson would be a huge blow for the Red Devils – especially for their rivals – but a move for Hall could give the club their own £115m star.
