De Zerbi could throw Spurs youngsters “deep”

You could cut the tension with a knife at Tottenham Hotspur, who are two points from safety in their Premier League relegation battle, with just two games to go.

Roberto De Zerbi has done an excellent job so far, replacing the injured Igor Tudor during the March international break, lifting them out of the relegation zone and restoring a sense of victory on the road.

Spurs have many problems, but there is a feeling that the forwards have not been hitting any of the right notes throughout the campaign. In other words, the Londoners are missing out on the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

Why Spurs are missing Harry Kane

It goes without saying that Kane is one of the best strikers in Premier League history. He has scored more goals than any other Tottenham player – ever.

Kane has been away for a long time, impressing in Germany with Bayern Munich, but with Son leaving last summer and Brennan Johnson, Spurs' top scorer in 2024/25, joining Crystal Palace in January, the attack's quality has been exposed.

Dominic Solanke's injury problems have damaged his chances of success up front, and with Richarlison signaling his exit in the summer, the importance of signing a new striker this summer has been heightened.

Attacking shortcomings are the only thing letting the Lilywhites down this season, however. Defensively, Tottenham have been woeful, and with Cristian Romero set to leave at the end of the season, something needs to change.

Fortunately, De Zerbi and his staff can throw in the new Kane at the end – albeit a full-back.

De Zerbi must introduce the new Kane for Spurs next season

Luka Vuskovic may not be a striker, but he has the potential to develop into one of the best defenders in the world, currently thriving on loan with Hamburg in the Bundesliga.

Vuskovic-Spurs-Tottenham

Whether the Croatian will play for Tottenham next season remains to be seen. He wouldn't fancy going into the Championship on his way up, to be sure, but if De Zerbi secures Spurs' Premier League spot, the youngster could play a key role next season, guiding Tottenham into the limelight.

Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke has even suggested that management are preparing to throw him “to the finish line” next season, and with Romero wanting to leave, this makes a lot of sense.

The young defender has even been described as a “beast in the making” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, who is very dominant in the air and is known on the ball.

He is a unique defender, made for the modern era. He wants to enter the ball and start the forward sequence, maintaining authority and willingness to participate in physical battles.

He may not hit home in the same way as Kane (although Vuskovic has scored five goals in 26 Bundesliga games this season), but he is undoubtedly one of the most talented young players in the midfield.

Luka Vuskovic from Hamburg

Vuskovic has yet to play a competitive game for Tottenham, but he has the world at his feet, and it would be a shame if Spurs let him leave before he makes a positive change in north London.

He has the potential to face Kane at the bottom of N17. Perhaps not in terms of position, but rather, with his world-class energy and ability to guide this club back to prominence.

Tottenham are well placed for the future – if they can survive this relegation battle.
